DS1 was 2 1/2 when he had cp - DS2 then caught it too, at just over a week old! Never had it again though.

RedBlanket · 07/02/2012 20:31

DTs had it at the same time but it's likely that they were exposed at the same time as well.

Catsmamma · 07/02/2012 20:34

we were poxed for weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeks! It was dreadful, dd was covered from head to toe, then ds2 got it, he was only about ten months old, but wasn't really ill with it, and then we thought ds1 had escaped....he broke out over three weeks later. I remember because I really thought he had escaped the 21 days!

fluffywhitekittens · 07/02/2012 20:36

Interesting you should ask, I was wondering about posting to ask if anyone had siblings who didn't get it, dd had it nearly three weeks ago and no sign of it for ds.

fluffywhitekittens · 07/02/2012 20:37

How x posted with Catsmamma, so theoretically he could still get it?

posey · 07/02/2012 20:40

2 weeks here as well. Dc2 had it a lot worse Sad

motherinferior · 07/02/2012 20:40

Again, I think it was two weeks...and I'm really sorry to say that yes DD1's bout was much worse than her sister's earlier one.

QED · 07/02/2012 20:45

DS got it when DD was 4 weeks old. She got it when she was 6 weeks old.

I got it when I was 9 and my sister didn't get it fir another three years. Have heard DD will be mire likely to (a) get chicken pix again and (b) get shingles but am hoping she won't.

GnomeDePlume · 07/02/2012 21:02

14 days - DD on the way down to the south of France, DS on the way back. In our defence for not having headed straight back home when DDs spots appeared we werent really sure DD had CP (she only had 7 spots in total). DS was covered head to toe, every time I turned round to look at him in the car more spots had appeared.

Im afraid DS was very much more ill than DD (he was 10 months old). He was covered in spots and the developed a fever which coulnt be brought down by Calpol. On advice we gave him infant ibuprofen and discovered he was allergic to it (swelled up and came out in huge blistery welts).

Happy days, this is 13 years ago and I still remember it very well.

tholeon · 07/02/2012 21:10

Would be very interested to know how ill the tiny babies who got cp from siblings were. Ds had spots last week though fine in himself, dd exposed at only three weeks, dreading her getting it..

mycatsaysach · 07/02/2012 21:13

dd got it from her brother at 8 months - despite hospital doctors telling us this wasn't possible
she wasn't especially ill but it was impossible to stop her raising her hands to her face (rubbing eyes) so she has some scarring even now

QED · 07/02/2012 21:18

When DD had it she was very spotty but not at all unwell. It basically made her more sleepy but I wasn't bothered by that :)

hopenglory · 07/02/2012 21:24

I had it, badly... two weeks later the oldest one came out in about a dozen spots....two weeks later the other one came out in more spots than could be counted. We left the country with one poxy child and came home with another poxy child

incywincyspideragain · 07/02/2012 21:53

ds1 (3) and ds2 (2) had it 15 days after ds3 (9months) had it - still can't work out if I would have preferred it spread over 6 weeks, having 2 with it at the same time wasn't much fun, I have heard of siblings who haven't caught it off each other though

hairypotter · 07/02/2012 21:59

15 days here. We thought we had dodged it too. DD2 rubbed her chickenpoxyness all over DD1 so it really was inevitable Sad she seemed ti get it much worse than dd2 as well.

bumbleymummy · 07/02/2012 23:02

:( I wonder if there is any possibility that DS1 actually caught it from DS2 and had it so mildly that we didn't notice. I know it's a long shot....

2 weeks exactly. Ds was 4, dd was 14 months. Dd was much less ill but more itchy but all her spots 1ere out and crusted within 3/4 days unlike ds who took 6/7 days. They both had at a guess about 500 spots. Poor dd had 80+ (counted!) On her face alone.

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 07/02/2012 23:13

My brother, sister and I all had chickenpox at separate times.

Dh was on holiday with his brother when his brother got the pox and was sharing a bed. Dh didn't catch it.

Ds and dd had chickenpox in november but in july they spent an entire day with a wee boy, sharing drinks etc who came out in spots that night.

Luck of the draw.

feetheart · 07/02/2012 23:16

Still waiting nearly 3 years later!

DS had a 'classic' bout of it - spotty, itchy, slightly irritable, etc. DD just didn't get it. Neither did she get it every other time she has been exposed to it in her nearly 9 years on this planet inspite of me trying very hard at every opportunity. She either has super-powerful immunity or is waiting for The Most Inconvenient Time Possible to get it Hmm

Imnotaslimjim · 07/02/2012 23:21

Exactly 2 weeks here too. DS broke out on Christmas day. DD started just as they we're going back to school. She had it much, much worse than he did. Like silverfrog's DC, she had them on her eyeball and one on her genitals got infected, so she had anti-virals then anti-biotics. That was a fun few weeks!!

Letchladee · 07/02/2012 23:31

DD2 got it when she was about 8 months and DD1 was about 3. I took her to the doctors and the Drs confirmed it was CP. DD1 didn't catch it though, despite at the time I was on mat leave, DD1 didn't go to nursery - so they were together 24/7.

DD1 eventually got it a couple of years later and DD2 then got it for a second time about 10 days after that. Drs told me that if they get it under a year, then they don't always get enough immunity from it and so can get it a second time.

BarbarianMum · 08/02/2012 22:55

Ds1 got it 25 days after close friend (child) got her first spot, and Ds2 got it 25 days after Ds1. Despite the 'up to 21 days' incubation period Hmm

emlu67 · 10/02/2012 10:33

DD at 15 months got it exactly 2 weeks after her friend did and gave it to DH exactly 2 weeks after that.

bumbleymummy · 29/02/2012 09:38

Just thought I'd update - DS2 got it just over 2 weeks later - 2 weeks and 2 days! So, based on this thread, 2 weeks seems to be about average (I realise that's not very scientific). :) He had fewer spots than DS1 but he did struggle with the itchiness a bit more. I think it was just harder for him to understand and he didn't want to spend as much time in the bath as DS1 which had really helped him. All over and done with now though - yay!
