Baby swallowed hydrocortisone cream

This morning I was changing & dressing my 8 month old DC3. I was in the middle of applying his cream when DC2 fell on the stairs. I rushed to him (he was upset but not hurt) then came back to the baby to find him sucking the tube of hydrocortisone, lid off. We then had to rush to take DC1 to school.

Obviously I feel dreadful about this, no idea what to do. I've googled and it would seem small amounts are not harmful.
Baby seems fine, fed as normal, played, happy on school run and now dropped off peacefully in his buggy. All normal behaviour for him.

Any advice? Has anyone else experienced this?

You must be feeling very stressed at the moment. It must feel tough with three small children.

Surely this is a matter for A and E not mumsnet. Or at least phone up NHS direct or go to your GP or phone the health visitor. How much cream has your baby eaten?

It's fairly hard to squeeze any out so a pea sized amount at most. I have phoned NHS direct and I'm waiting to hear back from them. No reply from HV.

All those who have been exposed to this product as a result of self-harm should be referred for assessment.

If this product was ingested accidentally by an adult or a child and the patient has no features, or minor GI symptoms, the patient does NOT need to be referred for medical assessment.

The above is from the database used in a&e and by NHS Direct so totally accurate and mumsnetty to boot!

Thanks sneezecakesmum that's great. A nurse at NHS direct called me back and said no need to worry, small amounts not harmful. She said she was using the database used in A&E too. He has vomited three times this afternoon though and had diarrhoea. He has been under the weather for a few days before this so could still be unwell/teething. He has been behaving normally apart from that, no obvious pain or discomfort. We co-sleep so I will keep an eye on him overnight.

Op I would say the cream has given him a tummy upset but nothing too extreme, as long as he does not become dehydrated from sickness etc. How was he the rest of the night for you?

i had such a sleepless night just to make sure he is fine. thank God he is acting great doesnt look like something had happened to him
