Contact lenses for young children

Hi everyone this is my first post on the site!
I am wondering if anyone uses contact lenses for their children. My DD is 5 and has been wearing glasses for 1.5 years. She has a squint but needs glasses for sight too. She has really long eyelashes and I have been through loads of different frames but they all squash her eyelashes against the lense(as it is her eyelashes already grow sidewards from being squashed up against the glass)

Added to this she has a slight hip impairment that makes her trip often and the glasses fall off or go flying and I'm afraid they will smash on her face or get walked on in the yard (she only started school this year) So thinking contact lenses might be an option but never heard of this for a younger child. Anyone any idea's?

My ds started with contact lenses when he was four, due to an eye condition that meant he didn't look through the centre of his glasses. Worked well and he went on to have surgery to correct the problem. Returned to hospital last week and they wanted him to go back to wearing glasses instead. I queried as not keen to go back after 2 successful years of lenses. Was advised that it is not recc to give under 15s lenses unless there is a specific condition that requires them. We negotiated for him to continue but on the basis that he ony wears them for sport/PE or situations where glasses are a nuisance. It might be worth asking the question but think you might be fighting a battle if her eye condition doesn't require it.

My 11yo DS has just got them, but only for sparring in his martial arts class. (So maybe twice a week for a few hours). Opticians agreed because he is very short sighted so cannot see what is happening, and is coming up to his black belt. There are problems of hygiene with young children, an increased risk of eye infections and less air gets to the eye. Even as an adult contact lens wearer I am recommended to only wear them six days out of seven and for a maximum of ten hours a day.

And it is horrible having to put them in your childs' eye for them! (My DS has just about got the hang of it now thank goodness.)
