Sore willy

DS age 6 was fine until he went for a wee this morning and started crying in pain. I managed to have a little look, he was very sensitive and couldn't pull his foreskin back very far or very long, but from what I saw, it looked like either a scratch or cracked skin.

I gave him Calpol and called NHS direct who still haven't called me back!

He has had 2 more wees since and both times been painful.

I'm wondering if I should try putting some cream on the area (as much as I can) or should I just leave it until I see a doctor. Anyone had any experience of this?

Do you think it might be this www.nhs.uk/conditions/Balanitis/Pages/Introduction.aspx? My son had this - I freaked and raced with him to the walk-in centre. From memory we were given an antibiotic cream there. I wouldn't put anything else on until you've seen the dr though. My little boy's willy got quite swollen so I would press to see the out of hours doctor if you think it might be heading that way.

Thanks for the link schmee - it could well be I guess. He doesn't seem to be in pain except for when he has a wee though, was that the same for your ds? I will take him to the walk in clinic tomorrow morning actually.

Should have done that earlier really, but because most of the time he wasn't complaining, (just for a few minutes every time he passed urine) I didn't think it was that serious. He was at a party for 3 hours being his usual boisterous self.

Oh i panicked in a completely OTT madwoman-who-gives-her-child-issues kind of way! Hope he is better now.

Grin

He is fine. The next day he was crying about not wanting to go the loo because it 'hurt so much' so I took him straight to the walk in clinic without bothering to check, waited an hour and a half, only for the nurse to found that it had completely disappeared (she saw slight remnants of a scratch - with a magnifying glass).

As soon as we walked in ds told the nurse "I have a scratch on my willy and it's 9 metres long." Grin Blokes eh!
