Croup misery

Just offloading really. DS (15m) has croup at the moment and asthma resulting in a horrible cough which seems to be worse at night. DH and I are taking it in turns to sit with him until he's in a deep enough sleep that he stops coughing. Keep thinking it can't get worse but it does, tonight I think the longest he's gone without coughing is about half an hour. He's had steroids, is on amoxicillin and his inhalers regularly. I just hope this stops soon all 3 of us are exhausted!

Croup is the bane of my existence. DS started getting it when he was 18 months, and every time he gets a cold, his body still turns it into croup at 8 years. I hope you all get some relief, and most importantly, DS feels better.

Well it's 5am and we're now both up because his temp is high. I was on the sofa til about 4 with him (wishing the entire time we had a sofa bed) so I've pretty much not slept tonight. Sad

DD had croup at a similar age to your DS so sending my sympathy.

Have you tried the cold air thing? My overriding memory of that time is DP bundling her up and walking her up and down the street in the middle of the night. Then back to me on the sofa for a feed while he dozed, then bundling her back up and taking her back out while I dozed on the sofa. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

It was a miserable time for all of us.

As an aside, I had a 'mystery' cough when I was little, drove my poor mum to distraction with sleep deprivation and worry, numerous trips to various specialists over the years only to be told she'll grow out of it by the time she's 4/5/7/10 etc.

I was worried that the croup would trigger something similar in DD and she has never had a cough since, nearly 5 years on from her bout of croup.

Hope he gets better soon and you manage some sleep. Doze whenever you can, I know it's easier said that done though!

How long does croup normally last for? He's been poorly with this for nearly 2 weeks now.

Are you sure it's croup? That only normally lasts a couple of nights.

The hospital doc said to me 10 days at the outside, and DS2's cough has improved a lot with the steroids. Maybe he needs more steroids?

I'm thinking about taking him back to the doctors because he's not responding to treatment at home. I thought it had been hanging around for a while but I'm worried it's developed into something else.

My DS has croup (guess) and DH has taken him to walk in centre just now. They immediately gave him more paracetemal and ibuprofen.
Us Brita are too stupid it seems to weigh our children and dose accordingly.
He has been having almost half of what he could be having according to his weight. No wonder he has seemed so poorly.
Google the actual dose for their weight. It's more than the calp

Sorry
