Sometimes a warm bath, or some heat on her tummy (hot water bottle?) could at least ease the pain for my DD. Also, try gently massaging her tummy in big clockwise circles - this works best for wind, I find, but can sometimes help with the pains. What about giving her some paracetamol - if she's weeping with the pain, I think you're justified!

Poor little scrap - I hope she feels better soon.

thanks Poledra tried warm bath, warm hot bottle, she dont drink or eat by mouth so put water and fruit through her feeding tube and yes she had meds too while she sleeping she seems ok ill see what gp suggests this tea time :(

Dry fruits can help with constipation, e.g. raisins, prunes or even wholemeal cereals with added fruits. Breakfast cereals on the other hand can cause constipation because most of them contain iron and rice powder. I have heard that Boots Syrup of Figs is good.

Trace2 - blimey, blast from the past or what? I can't believe dd is at school!

Poor mite. when you put her on the loo do you have a stoll she can rest her feet on? Sometimes it helps them get in a better pooing position so to speak.

FGS - a stool

My son was chronically constipated for over 2 years. The doctors never felt anything in his tummy either. But he always complained of tummy ache and didn't pass a stool for 10 days sometimes. Movicol has helped.

He has now been diagnosed with a severe gut allergy, one of the symptoms of which is constipation.

So I think you should go back to your (v unsympathetic!) GP until they start listening to you. My son's gut was so inflamed he had to have steroids and NG tube feeding and is still on lots of meds.

I'd hate for your little girl to go undiagnosed like my son - it took a hospital stay for people to start listening to me. GPs often don't know enough about this stuff, any paediatric gastroenterologist would say the same, gut allergies are massively under-diagnosed.

Good luck, it's miserable seeing them like this I know

My 'little one' is 18 now.Grin We're doing pretty well - transferred to adult services which is a bit of a shocker. I've already had to make a complaint.

Hope you get her sorted out trace2.

trace2 · 26/01/2012 18:09

ok weird we been giving her warm water through her feeding tube well her nappies is full of watery poo , so what the hell is wrong?

OP posts:
wadadlis · 26/01/2012 18:10

The doctors told us that this means that there is a blockage of hard stool and then watery stuff leaks around the edge - so that's what you see in the nappy.

trace2 · 26/01/2012 18:14

wadadlis thank you for your post dd is under a gastric doc and is already on movical only missed one day wheh she was dehydrated now this and she to as gut allergy's her bowels are inflamed am going to ring her pead tomorrow can not keep watching her crying like this:(

sounds similar to my ds. He has eosinophilic colitis. If she is in that much pain you might consider A&E for stronger pain killers? The problem is that both paracetamol and ibuprofen irritate the gut further so we get a bit stuck..

trace2 · 26/01/2012 18:29

yes it sounds same all i know is they said her was colitis but she as bleed lots from her bottom but now with strict diet she been ok up till now:( i have told dh thats what am gona do take her to a&e if no better soon, but the other nappies as calmed her down for a while but then she not had as much through her tube in two days

No - I don't do FB much.

It does sound like she might be impacted and the watery poo is seeping around the constipated bit. There's a name for it but I can't remember.

Will she let you do some massage on her tummy - or lie her on the floor and push knees up to her chest to see if you can get her moving.

Apologies, I realise that this is 6 months too late, but I've only just come accross this thread. If you haven't already found it, you may find the FABED website helpful. It has been a real lifeline for my family.
