DS has worms - Dr says no need to treat me and DH?

So DS1 has worms. I am washing and cleaning bedding, cuddly toys, carpet, bathroom etc etc, and will collect treatment for DS1 and DS2 from Dr today. Spoke to Dr on the phone this morning and she says no need to treat DH and me - but everything I have read says to treat everyone in household: anyone else successfully treated worms without treating everyone?

My dd has had them twice since starting school ( now y3) and i only treated her both times and no one else in our house got them. Just make sure everyone washes their hands well and discourage any nailbiters .

I usually only treat the children. I've only once treated me, and dh wouldn't take the medicine if I bribed him.

I'd take the pills myself - it's just a single tablet so the inconvenience and cost is very small to minimise the risk of recurrence.
Don't forget to repeat the dose next week (or is it fortnight? I forget).

I would only treat adults with symptoms, but make sure everyone is washing hands frequently, esp before eating - nailbrush is the way to go.

Thanks for all the reassurance - going to collect the prescription in a bit so will get treating....

We treated everyone but it depends on the age of children I think, ours are still small and use potty (one is at the end of potty training) so lets just say dh and I had more potential to catch it! if not I would follow what everyone else said and strict hygeine methods for 2 weeks - wash all bedding, towels etc on at least 60 and children wore pants for bed, then repeat dose 2 weeks afterwards (apparently thats how long the eggs can live for)
