Worms...again

Gross, not for the faint hearted..
DS was moaning about having itchy bottom before bed, I put some cream on - his skin was dry...and told him to stop being silly...
I just felt a bit itchy down there and went to investigate (sounds weird but we have had worms - whole family - about 5 times in last year...) anyway, just found 1cm worm wriggling around my oh god ahem... I can't bear it. HOW DO WE GET RID OF THEM once and for all?

Did you treat everyone and then repeat two weeks later?

sneezecakesmum · 25/01/2012 21:58

Worms are partly a hygiene thing and mostly bad luck!

I'm sure you know the life cycle starts with eggs being transferred to the mouth on the hands. It doesnt mean no one washes their hands in your house, it means you could have picked up an egg when changing DSs bedding, etc.

Is DS old enough to understand and make sure he thoroughly washes hands before eating anything, and also doesnt put his hands to his mouth?

Basically youve got to start from scratch (no pun intended [bgrin] ) and wash all the possible sources, bedding, towels, clothing, in the whole house
in one go. Treat the whole familiy and then re treat as per instructions. I would also boil wash underwear and anything else boilable. There is a product you can buy to sterilise underwear, may even be Milton? I did read that undies should be sterilised as washing with a general wash including tea towels, babies bibs etc can transfer the bacteria ecoli to other items..gross!

emeraldex · 25/01/2012 22:04

seona yes we did the correct treatment and bedding/towel changes etc.

DS is old enough to wash hands but has a dreadful habit of putting his thumb in his mouth and the other hand down his pants (front not back) for a fiddle. eeeek.
sneezecakes wash ALL the clothes in the house? or just the dirty ones?
My hands are washed so frequently that they are practically scaly...
DD is crawling all over the place, I don't know if she has them - I guess i wouldnt know unless i actually saw one when changing her - you can't do the treatment on the under twos - any suggestions there?

You need to treat DD at the same time.

DD2 had worms when she was about 18 months (found it wriggling on her bum when I changed her nappy). We went to the GP and he prescribed something as we couldn't use OTC treatments.

How long do thread worms take to die once Ovex is taken. We all had a dose on Monday night and I checked my son's poo tonight - Wednesday (the things we do !) and they were still in there all wrigglying about. I was mortified. I have been cleaning the house daily - (I do anyway) and changing sheets etc. I am exausted and was so disappointed to see them still there.

magicwoodyallenzombiejesus · 25/01/2012 22:52

Ovex starves the fuckers but reducing your sugar intake also good idea. Can take up to 3-4 days if a heavy infestation.
Pripsen powder puts you off milkshake for life but will paralyse the fuckers and the senna helps expel them - pripsen can be used for under twos.
New nail brushes - brushing under nails after teethbrushing.
Every morning either a shower or hosing down the buttcheeks.
Sleep in undies and jammies and some vaseline in anal area.
Also carrot juice carrot soup and lots of garlic can help but medication and stringent hygiene is essential.
Would also do ovex three times not two - all family and pripsen too if symptoms are still there/upsetting.
Door handles/taps also clean and you can get very expensive posh soap dispensers that don't require touch now.
Worked for my DD. HTH

magicwoodyallenzombiejesus · 25/01/2012 22:54

Give it til Friday then give him pripsen (that works more or less straight away but tastes vile). Took 4 days for my DD til she was clear because she was riddled Sad

magicwoodyallenzombiejesus · 25/01/2012 22:56

The 4 days was with ovex - i feel your pain. Twas a nightmare waiting but it should work and cut out sugar if poss too.

vanquish · 25/01/2012 23:18

he is 5, has been eating everything in sight and I thought it was a growth spurt. I shall get the pripsen for Friday and do us all again.

thanks

vanquish · 25/01/2012 23:22

I have been checking out The Life Tree Parasite Cleanse and thought of doing that (am a bit paranoid now), it can do more good than harm ?
Has anyone tried it ?

CointreauVersial · 25/01/2012 23:50

Just remember, worms are rarely harmful (just gross.....)

sneezecakesmum · 26/01/2012 22:20

magicwoody....loads of brilliant suggestions, v impressed Grin

vanquish · 27/01/2012 08:13

yes thanks, I checked his poo again and there was one riggling about again. But at least only one. I am going to get the pripsen powder today and do us all again.

vanquish · 28/01/2012 12:28

got the powder from Boots yesterday, checked his poo today (Saturday morning) and yeeehaaa they are all gone, spent ages on inspection !!!! defo none left.

Will dose us all again for the next 2 Mondays just to be sure.

vanquish · 28/01/2012 12:33

and will keep up the OCD cleaning behaviour !

lollygag · 28/01/2012 12:58

A good tip if you can is to make him wear a nappy at night as this stops the re-infection route caused by scratching.Scratching is what gets the eggs (which are laid around the anus) back into the body via contaminated fingers then mouth.

vanquish · 29/01/2012 00:55

That's a good idea. Will do that,
