How much sweat makes it a "night sweat"?

My DS, 13, is often "damp" when I check on him before I go to bed. His hair is not stuck to his head and he never soaks the sheets, but he definitely has a layer of perspiration, usually on his chest and back, and it does seem to be when he's under his (v light) duvet. It never wakes him either. Is this a night sweat and therefore a worry, or not?

i though a "nightsweat" was where you ended up absolutely drenched! i'm sure he's fine!

If he is otherwise well, eats and is normally active, it is probably nothing. Possibly heading into puberty? Nightsweats are a product of fevers and most commonly associated with tuberculosis, and NO your DS doesnt have that Smile

Yes, a "night sweat" is drenching and would require the sufferer to change their night wear and bedclothes.

My DD had night sweats. Her hair was really wet and nightclothes stuck to her. You could see damp patches on the sheets where she lay and she was shivering. Your DS's sweats don't sound the same, but if you're at all worried just take him to the GP. There's no point in being worried over nothing when you could get quick reassurance and they'll have had to deal with many things less sensible than that this week already, believe me Smile.

Thank you all. I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I think I feel reassured - the best word I can think of to describe his "sweating" is sticky and that doesn't sound like what you've described.
