she has a nasty cold and a bad throat - GP saw her yesterday and gave antibiotics, more preventative than anything else, as what she has is viral. She is very unwell, but she is feeding, she isn't dehydrated, she is producing dirty nappies. But she is very very sleepy - we are having to work hard to wake her for feeds and to keep her awake during them. We have a referral letter for A+E which we were told to use if she either stops feeding or develops a temperature. The sleepiness worries me a bit, although she is presumably trying to sleep herself better.

What do you think? Should we just wait it out? She had a good feed this morning, but went immediately back to sleep. When she is awake, she is alert, smiling, but not for long (she was a pretty sleepy newborn, sleeps deeply anyway, but had started to be awake for longer periods before the nasty cold arrived)

Is she breathing ok?

If worried take her to a and e and get her checked

breathing is fine - she looks a bit pale and she is sleeping all the time...think we are going to end up in a+e unless she picks up in the next few hours

If she is feeding well, breathing is fine, and is having periods when she is awake, alert and smiling then I'd have thought she is okay.

I echo the if worried then go to A&E though.

ImperialBlether · 24/01/2012 18:22

I would take her to A&E. I hope she's better soon.

If you're worried, go to A&E.

thanks - she seems better this afternoon, but am keeping a very close eye on her indeed - she's feeding more and has been awake a good bit
