Eggy breath - teeth or digestion?

DS has suspected ASD so has a terrible diet. No vegetables and hardly any fruit. I have noticed for a while that his breath is eggy. He hasn't been to the dentist for a while as his issues make these sort of appointments very difficult (he hasn;t had his hair cut for 7 months for example!) I was just wondering whether it is likely to be his teeth or stomach causing the smell.....

i think it's more likely to be digestion related tbh - tummy bugs often start with an eggy smell

literally Sad

It is rank. Smells like those smoke bombs that kids used to set off in the stairwell! He has had it for ages now but I have been too busy being ill to sort it. Is it worth a GP visit do you reckon?

Does he drink enough? My 4 year old DS doesn't have all the issues that your DS has and has a fairly good diet, but often doesn't drink enough in the day - too busy playing etc - and his breath is sometimes really horrid. I'm working on getting him to stop and drink regularly.as I've realised he's just not going to come and tell me he's thirsty. MPD

That's an idea MPD. He is worse in the morning and he never drinks in the morning. Will make sure he drinks more (he doesn't recognise thirst untill he's desperate). x

DD is very reluctant to drink, unless prompted she can go 12 hours without! (also sus. ASD)

a drinking bottle at her side, all the time, has helped enormously.

Sounds more digestive than teeth. Hopefully you manage toothburushing if he has dentist issues. Fluids are a very good place to start.
