Fever and drowsiness, when to go to the doctor?

Should I even bother making an appointment? Ds is 3 and has had a fever of about 38-39 since Thursday. He's much worse at night, calpol and nurofen seem to lower his temp for a few hours, then it's raging again. He's pale and very quiet and since yesterday has had a streaming nose. Do I just let this run it's course? I don't think I've ever seen him this poorly, willingly spending all day in bed is unheard of for him. He was seen about 3 weeks ago with a very rattly chest, he was given an inhaler and antibiotics to clear up whatever it was, they didn;t say it was a chest infection, but that it 'might be' so were prescribed those things on the offchance as he'd already been ill for a while.

Yes, I would make an appointment, tbh. Sounds like flu, but if its gone on this long he could have a secondary infection - best checked out. Hope he's better soon, poor mite!

My ds is also 3 and exactly the same as too is dd 7, i have rang the gp ths morning to be told it's a virus that is going around and just keep giving paracetamoll for the temp and everything else will get better in time. Not very helpful are they

Thanks for the replies. I've still not made an appointment tbh, he's been up and about playing, still a slight temperature and a bit emotional with it (was in floods of tears at not being able to separate two bricks for eg) and cuddly, but I'm still on the verge of taking him to see someone. He's a slight thing anyway and his trousers are noticeably looser :(
