Hi, gave dd2 (3 1/2) small packet of choc buttons earlier. I said to DH, that's weird, the pack has inflated. He popped them and she ate 2/3rds of the pack.

Soemthing rang in my head and upon looking on internet, packet inflation normally means bacteria in there, harmful stuff.

I called docs, he seemed to think all OK, but cudn't explain the inflating, unless the seal had broken, soemthing I won't know as packet is now ripped open.

I'm worried she's gonna have food poisoning. Please somebody tell me I'm being paranoid. If not being pararnoid, cud she be realy ill from this and how soon do the symptoms start?

Help please?

You are being paranoid.

Packets inflating can mean bacteria in the food, but not in dried stff like chocolate, just in dairy/meat/ready meals etc Smile

It's unlikely. Inflated packing in things like meat usually mean bacteria. What you looked at on the net was it for chocolate or other foods?

Thx for ur replies, inet stuff related to meat and cheese (mozarella). As choc is dairy based, thought it wud be quite vunerable?

I go by if it has a best before date rather than use by. Use by means it can go off, best before means it'll still be ok, just maybe not as yummy after that date! Also, you don;t need to refridgerate chocolate, so it can't be the same as for example, milk or cheese.

Never heard of chocolate leading to food poisoning so supect it'll be ok. tends to be uncooked stuff that is the problem with inflating packet.

dawneg · 22/01/2012 19:56

what I should add is that they weren't inflated wen I put them in there 2 weeks ago. Cud it just be cold making them inflate?

more likely to be heat i think
