And has always been,
His diet contains of cereal, bread, cheese and chicken and pasta. I'm at my whitts end, he's terribly underweight, ive made appointments in the past and seen the doctors and was always told he'll grow out of it.. I think it's a physiological problem with food.. I've tried everything.. I made a pasta Bol and blended the mince into the sauce, he knew something was different and kept asking over and over again what was in it.. After he'd ate it I told him there was mince in it, and he erupted, how could I? I replied as I was only jokeing! That his face was a picture,, I had to lie I felt he would of had some sort of fit if I didn't.. They need to hear me know and do there job I'm not leaving that doctors till I'm happy!

What happens if he eats mince?

savoycabbage · 21/01/2012 00:12

I Angrywould definitely go back to the doctor. Keep a diary and write down what he is eating/not eating every day.

How is he with mess or dirtiness? My friends ds who has massive food issues can't put a baby's dummy in its mouth or throw a dogs ball in the park or do fingerprinting.

savoycabbage · 21/01/2012 00:12

I don't know where that Angry came from!!!

He's very clean, he wanted soup at his NANs house once and she went to heat it in the micro, well he had told her not to heat it in the micro but on the stove as the micro was a bit dirty Blush
I didn't know where to look at this point..
He's always been the same since he was sick with mash and gravy when he was a baby.. He was I'll one night and was sick after his dinner since then has never touched mash and gravy again,, and I think it's gone on from there,?

I think he's scared to eat mince? I don't know why? He's scared to try food and I don't know why? He'll cry if I try to persuade him and he says it's his decision?

Any veg he likes? Fruit?

savoycabbage · 21/01/2012 02:01

I think I would work on the clean thing. Perhaps do some science experiments together, go for a walk in a muddy forest, dig the garden that sort of thing.

liverLadyLass · 21/01/2012 09:21

He will not touch veg,
I've also tried getting him to cook with me, doesn't work.

No, not cooking. Stuff like this experiment or this art

He needs help from someone who knows what they are doing. Food issues are no joke. Dd1 has a restricted diet and always has. She is 9 and has other SN too. We always put food on her plate, even if I know she won't eat it! It took 8 years to get her to eat roast potatoes!

whatanewyear · 21/01/2012 17:38

My DB was the same as your DS as a child. Still as an adult eats no fruit or veg including potatoes though will now eat chips and the only protein is chicken or cheese but obvioulsy nothing in sauces/messed around with!
He was no more underweight than the rest of our family from this diet.
Luckily he does a physical job and not a job that requires entertaining suppliers or anything where his restricted diet might matter.
It pains me to say that at 40 he is the healthiest and strongest of all my siblings and far more so than me despite my very healthy diet.

My DS is similar to yours and under a paed and dietician and despite eating 50% of recomended calories a day they advised if you have energy in day and sleep through the night you must be getting enough and not to worry.

Do check weight against height though as what looks very underweight compared to other children is not actually that underweight on the charts in the HV books. My DS is far thinner than his whole class when swimming and all his ribs show but according to professionals he is not that underweight for his height so I can only guess the others must all be on a higher centile for weight than height or he has more muscle?

Whatanewyear: thanks for your comment
I went to the doctor today and explained his diet and how worried I am that he may not be getting enough vitamins and minerals and due to his height and weight, like your child, I've been told he's not under on either,, that he's perfectly normal, he told my son that there was nothing wrong with him, I felt that was a dig at me!
I had explained again I knew there was nothing wrong with him I was just worried he wasn't getting enough due to him being tired all the time, he then had said he would contact a dietriction and would phone me at six, no phone call whatsoever? Total waste of time,, I'll wait till tomorrow then I will make another appointment, they drive me nuts!!
