usually we're a shoes off house as well, but the one time she's actually wearing them i turned round just now and saw her looking really distressed, holding her shoe in one hand and pointing to a pile of crap on the floor with the other. She had it on her hand and I think she may have eaten some. Do i call NHS direct? is there anything they can do? i feel like i've failed her completely.

She'll be fine, she's not the first & won't be the last.
Getting it in her eyes would be more of a problem.

ragged · 18/01/2012 12:09

Oh, and do wash her hands, & beware in case she does take it badly & puke (but unlikely).

ProgressivePatriot · 18/01/2012 12:10

anyone? really dont' want to google it for fear of what might turn up. too ashamed to call NHS direct unless i really have to but would welcome advice. maybe i'm the only parent who has been so careless.

No advice - but I'm sure you're not the only one and it's certainly not being careless. In fact you're probably the only one that's noticed!!

ProgressivePatriot · 18/01/2012 12:13

well it was a humungous pile, i'm struggling to think how she managed to walk in with it on her tiny shoes without me noticing.

My DD ate cat poo when she was around 18 months.

I phoned the GP to find what what, if anything, to do. He told me that as it was fresh not to worry too much and just keep an eye on her. She was completely fine but I did not fancy her kisses for a while.

Hope your DD is fine.

ragged · 18/01/2012 12:14

Do Google it,honestly,go ahead! You'll find it reassuring how many others have done same thing with no harm done.

fluffyanimal · 18/01/2012 12:15

If she has ingested any, I would think there is very little you can do, it's not like an overdose or accidental poisoning where there would be antidotes etc. You just have to hope her immune system does its job and be well prepared for a bout of D&V. If that does happen, take her to the GP and say you are fairly sure she managed to ingest some dog faeces, so that they will know best how to treat the D&V.
Sorry not to be more reassuring but a friend of mine's DC got too close to a stray chicken in the park and ended up with Campylobacter.

Where was the poo? Your post makes it sound like it was in your house.

Shit seems to be a delicacy for many toddlers Confused My two have both been caught with their hands in cat litter. Only one of them ate it. My Dnephew has been caught eating rabbit shit or as he called them 'very crunchy raisins' [boak]

My mum assured both myself and my sister that her sister had once eaten dog shite and grew up just fine.

ProgressivePatriot · 18/01/2012 12:18

it was in the house. i think she must have walked in with it on her shoe and then pulled the pile (so it couldnt' have been that fresh, oh god) off her shoe in the dining room, which was when i noticed.

ProgressivePatriot · 18/01/2012 12:23

i don't mean the dog pooed in the house and then she stepped in it. obviously. we don't even have a dog.

We caught DC4 with a teaspoon scooping up the (pet) rat litter. Black smears around his mouth.
This from a toddler who wouldn't even eat raisins, sigh.

blackoutthesun · 18/01/2012 12:28

well i doubt she would have eaten much, surely it can't taste nice (even to a toddler)

dd has eaten her own poo once Confused

ProgressivePatriot · 18/01/2012 12:30

eeeww, ragged theres no accounting for taste

blackoutthesun see at least with her own poo you 'know where it's been' ahem...

BOAK! I'm sure she'll be ok. Hopefully someone will read this and pick up their bloody dog poo now though!

D0oinMeCleanin · 18/01/2012 12:40

As the owner of three dogs, fresh dog poo can be peeled off a shoe, depending upon how firm it is.

accidentprawn · 18/01/2012 17:42

go to A&E please. it can blind people. i don`t know what could happen if they eat it..
