recurrent (?) UTI in child

Hi, haven't posted on here for many months for a number of reasons but I'm back!

My dd (7) has had 2 UTI's in last 3 months and I wondered if anyone had any advice?

I think it's a combination of things - she doesn't wipe herself very well despite coaching, she is a terrible hand washer (again, despite coaching and nagging!!) and she often plays with herself before sleep (we know this because she will do it until sore and then complain!). TBH I am amazed she's not had a UTI until now.

Any advice gratefully received as I am a little concerned that she's had 2 so closely together.

Has she been diagnosed by the Dr? Did she get antibiotics?

When my DD had a uti she needed to give another sample after she finished the course of abs' to check her liver.

Jeez, kidneys not liver Hmm

Diagnosed first time; this time, not yet. Seeing GP in morning if can get appointment! But fairly certain, as symptoms identical. I am worried about kidneys - are UTI's a sign of kidney problems?

I don't think it's a sign of kidney problems but I was told to always do another sample after to determine the infection was completely away.

Saw doc, and now on antibiotics. He says if she gets another he will refer for checks on bladder/urethra etc which is apparently quite common.

Hope she feels better soon, thanks for update Smile

My DD has been diagnosed with an obstruction in the tube between her kidney and bladder which is stopping the flow of urine. She was investigated after one UTI at about 1 year. She is now 2.5 and about to have an operation. (I've just visited this section as I'm about to post on this.)

The consultant told me that UTI's peak in girls at 5/6 because they get too interested in doing things and forget to go to the loo. He recommended getting her to pee every 2/3 hours. He didn't explain how to do this though.

HTH.

Thank you thelittlestkiwi.
I feel less worried, as doctor reassured me it's rarely caused by anything serious as I was worried about her kidneys.
I hope your daughters op goes smoothly xx

If it is kidneys don't worry. My dd 13mo had two kidney blockages and two ops so far. Obv stressful at time but much better to get it sorted than them have trouble whole life.
