.. which is painful when I touch it,a temperature and is really grumpy. I have given ibuprofen, spoke to nurse yesterday and she said it was just loal reaction.

It just looks so big (about 3 inches across) and angry and he is really miserable.

Is this just a normal reaction to the jab?

Yes I would say so. Is it sort of circular and raised like a bump on the head?

hazeyjane · 14/01/2012 15:30

yes vaguely round, very raised, and quite hard. He screamed the place down when I touched it so it must really hurtSad

He is my 3rd dc and I don't remember anything like this before!

Ds didn't have this but dd did. I'd just give him some pain relief and maybe ice it a bit? I don't think you should be worried unless he starts having other symptoms- excessive temp, vomiting, diahorroea etc. Things that would usually flag up concern. It should calm down in a few days but the Mark may stay for a couple weeks

DC3 had this with one of the baby jabs, it went away (entirely) after a week or so.

hazeyjane · 14/01/2012 17:18

thankyou all, he has just not eaten his tea, and screamed himself to sleep on my lap.

Hazey,

I would want any child of mine who had a hot inflammation checked out to exclude an opportunistic bacterial infection. I would take him to OOH or A&E, especially if running a significant fever.

bumbleymummy · 14/01/2012 19:09

I definitely would not consider that a 'normal' reaction and would get it checked out. If nothing else, I would want to get it recorded. You can report reactions yourself using the yellow card system here . It't worth doing in case other children are having the same reaction and it might be a faulty batch or something. I hope he feels better soon :(

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 14/01/2012 19:19

If it was just the raised patch I'd say yes, a local reaction as ds had this but he isn't eating, is very irritable and has a fever so I'd get him checked out personally.

DeWe · 14/01/2012 19:43

I wouldn't consider it normal, and my ds reacted badly to jabs. I would get him checked. If you're going to A& E make it sooner rather than later as it gets busy on Saturday evenings.

Thankyou everyone, sorry I didn't come back on here sooner.

We called the children's ward at the hospital (ds has open access because of other issues) and they said to keep an eye on him overnight, try to keep his temp down and call or come in if he is any worse.

Thankyou for the link,I'll definitely report the reaction.
