Hello,
Im after some advice please. My DD has had stomache pain (burning in the centre of her stomach) on and off for several years. They can last for up to a week and then can dissappear for a couple of months. She has no other symtoms im aware of (bloody diarrrhoea etc). She has been diagnosed as abdominal migraine but this has been based on no other tests. I'm cluthcing at straws and wondering whether this is a possibility.

Any advice would be really grateful as Im rather desperate !!p.s she is 12
thanks

Hi, i have crohns disease, when i started i found the pain was constant, it came with the squits (up to 15 times a day) bloody a lot of the time, dramatic weight loss, lethargy and sleeping a lot, also sickness, joint pain, and mouth ulcers. None of this went until i was on the drug treatment, which as thankfully stabelised it.

Im not saying DD does not have Crohns, but maybe something like IBS or Colitis?

Thank you Calamityboo

I think you are right - it doesnt sound like Crohns at all. Im sorry that you have this and glad that your treatment is working. IBS and colitis are next on my list !

I have crohn's too and had same symptoms as calamity so I would be surprised if your DD had it.

I think it is almost worse having vague symptoms that can't have a specific treatment so sympathises to your DD and hope she is better soon

p.s. calamity what treatment are you on and are you in remission?

calamityboo · 12/01/2012 23:16

Hiya, I am taking daily doses of mesalazine (pentasa) and have been in remission for a few years now, I used to also take lansoprazole but stopped when I was expecting ds2, how about you? Sorry Lloyd I did mean to add that I hope you do find out what is causing dds problems and she will be ok.

lloydjam, abdominal migraine is very common in this age group, but I wonder whether you shouldn't ask for a couple of tests just to check.
I agree Crohn's sounds unlikely as it's characterised by bleeding, but I would suggest a urine sample being checked by the practice nurse, and a stool sample being sent off to look for a grumbling nfeciton, and also a blood test for a full blood count and, importantly, coeliac disease could easily be done (one needle!) then you might be a bit happier knowing the things that it wasn't!
Also google 'mesenteris adenitis' (as well as abdominal migraine!) on nhs choices

Calamity glad you are in remission :) I go to the hospital every 6 weeks to have an infliximab drip and am kind of in remission. Generally feel fine but frequency and looseness varies and I can always tell when I am due to go for drip. I have been symptom free in the past so they are doing another colonoscopy on tues next week to check on inflamation.

Sorry to hijack your thread lloydjam :)

Oh bless you choccy, I hope you get into full remission soon. Good luck next week, I hope you will be ok.

Sorry for the hijacking!
