My 6 yr old DD has been being sick since 8pm last night. She has nothing left in her stomach except the fluids she is drinking. She has nibbled less than a quarter of a slice of toast at lunch time but just cant staop wretching. We have both been up all night and she is tired and weary. She has lost control of her bowel too. I am giving her small drinks, the toast is the only thing she has had and will have now until there is any improvement. Is there anything else i can do to help her? Ive never dealt with vomiting as severe as this and am totally out of my depth. please help meSad

Sounds very much like norovirus which often presents as rapid onset violent vomiting and stomach cramps. Just clear liquids are recommended as unfortunately I don't think there is anything else that will help her, just time for the virus to come out I'm afraid.

I feel for her/you, my DS had this twice when he was 2 years old and it is so nasty.

If things don't start improve within about 24 hours from onset or she goes downhill it may be worth a call to NHS direct to see what they advise.

Good luck x

This sounds like noro and it is hell. The very, very violent retching.

It can go on for a while so what you have to be aware of is fluids. DD had to go to hospital for rehydration and took a long time to pick up. If she goes sleepy you need to be hyper aware of how much she has kept down and get her checked if concerned asap...

oh she is sleeping now but i think thats because she is tired. she has been drinking but throwing it all back up.

poor you and your Dd. My DD (5) has had a really nasty vomiting but that sounds similar. started on sunday, water not even staying down, temp (38.8 highest) and a rash. today is the first day she's eaten a proper meal (although much smaller portion than normal) although yesterday she had a bit of toast and some biscuits.
she still says her tummy hurts though but it doesn't seem to be affecting her much

no diarrhoea though

hope it stops in the next few hours.

The best piece of advice ever given to me by a wonderful GP was to offer water on a teaspoon when vomiting. Less is taken but it is more likely to be tolerated. Start with a tsb full every 20 minutes and once that is tolerated shorten the time span between each spoonful.

thanks ladies, she seems ok at times and weary at times. Wretching and just bits of water coming up now. I cant believe its still happening. I am so tired and hope she manages to sleep for a while so i can get a bit of rest, sorry if that sounds selfishSad DH is on nights so DD can sleep with me but it does mean i am on my own with this. Hopefully tomorrow will be better, thanks for you help and adviceSmile
