Should I take DD to the GP for this?

I don't know if I'm being pfb or not Hmm

DD is 10 mo. For over a month she's been coughing daily. Not badly but a number of times a day and usually has at least one coughing fit a night. She hasn't had a cold and the cough just sort of appeared from nowhere. Other than that she seems fine.

DH and MIL both have asthma and I'm not really sure what symptoms might be if DD has it but I'm wondering if I should visit the doctors to rule this out or if I shoul just get over myself keep shrugging it off.

Any advice appreciated Grin

I wouldn't bother tbh, but I'm a bit lax like that.I did once take dd to the doc with a cough and she told me that coughs last 6 weeks Hmm and that cough medicine is a waste of money.

Have you asked the pharmacist? They are usually my first port of call.

Not rung pharmasist yet buch . Tbh I can be major pfber but can also be lax in other ways - it's dh who seems to be the major pfber and he's the one making me Hmm about seeing a gp but then he thinks I should also see the gp incase dds legs are overly short Hmm Grin . Maybe I should leave it a couple more weeks....

Grin at poor dd's possibly short legs. (I was told by dp to take dd to hospital for bags under her eyes)

Just re-read the cough has lasted 4 wks...maybe a secondary infection from a cold? Antibs?

Coughing at night can be a symptom of asthma (DS has it due to being so prem). They are reluctant to do much about it though, as it's hard to diagnose properly before they are 5 or so and can do a peak flow.

DS just has ventolin which we give him at bedtime and if he seems wheezy at other times. It's definitely stopped his nighttime coughing and his sleep is much better as a result.

Our doctor probably would prescribe an inhaler on those symptoms. He wouldn't be saying that she has asthma, but the inhaler might well alleviate the symptoms.

All my dc have had an inhaler at some point, which has helped get rid of the cough, but only one has (mild) asthma.

If it was bothering her or effecting sleep I would go to gp but like dewe said it most likely wouldn't be given a label of asthma at this point but an inhaler may help.

Thanks. I'm a bit scared at the thought of an inhaler Blush . Maybe if it goes on a while longer it would be worthwhile checking it out Hmm
