reflux?

Dd is screaming again. Has been every evening. I suspect it is colic or reflux.. She is also being quite sick..

I have given her infacol. rocked her in her crib, paced the floor with her, sat her up in her bouncy chair, let her lie on me, shoogled her in the pram.. Nothing will stop her screaming.

Poor you and babyHecubasdaughter. How sick is she being? We found Dr prescribed infant gaviscon and ranitidin for DS1's reflux.
If it is the same time every evening and she is settled for the rest of the time it sounds more like colic to my completely unexpert opinion, which I have no advice for.
Have you tried a sling?
Hope you have a better evening, and a restful night. I can still remember those nights with DS2. (shudders)

She's sick quite a lot and it's pretty forceful. Both of us end up soaking with milk. It is definitely worse in the evenings. She vomits a lot more volume wise than dd1 ever did.

I've not tried a sling yet but even holding her wasn't working last night.

Reflux is awful :( feel for you. Second gaviscon. Was and still is a miracle worker for ds3.

Other tips for you is to raise one end of her cot. I co slept with a bedside crib so used a pillow from around 4 months. Keep her upright for at least 20 mins after a feed. And my electric swing was a godsend.

Does she have any other symptoms? Ds was diagnosed with cows milk protein intolerance too. Might be worth looking into Smile

I've been doing the upright thing. That's why I had her in a bouncy chair and lying up across my chest.

I think the main problem is the GP not taking me seriously. I feel he thinks I'm over reacting to a small amount of posseting.

Can't help with baby reflux but if you've an easy to use video phone could you film the crying / vomiting? The only way I got dr to appreciate the state my son got into at night was to video it. Just a thought x

oh no Sad

the only way i could get anyone to listen to me was to take dd to a+e

Poor you, reflux is awful and it is hard to get medics to accept it at first - the health visitor kept telling that " all babies are sick" until I kept a log of how many times my son was sick in 24 hours (over 40 times) to demonstrate it wasn't just normal possetting.

Cut out the infacol as that can make vomiting worse, as it collects bubbles of air into one big bubble and forces it out, which often brings a lot of milk with it for a refluxy baby. The sling was a godsend and practically the only way my son would sleep other than on my chest. We used infant gaviscon and ranitidine and very soon saw some improvement - gaviscon is difficult to give to breastfed babies though, we used to give it in an ounce or two of expressed milk as a top up because we found mixing it with water and spooning or syringing it in wasn't working.

The best cure in the end is time, my son was much improved at around 6 months and we could reduce his medication then, and it was gone altogether by about 10 months. He is 3 now and is perfectly fine and in fact has a very strong stomach and almost never gets sick!

Good luck and go easy on yourself, it is very hard so do whatever it takes to get yourself through.
