urgent question re scarlet fever

I now suspect DD (4) has scarlet fever (vomiting yesterday, sore throat, itchy rash on arms, red cheeks, temp) - she is sleeping atm. Do I need to take her to OOH to get anti biotics (if it is that) tonight or can it wait until the morning?

thanks

I would be tempted to call OOH, I have a feeling it's one of those that is generally ok if treated quickly but the complications arise if it's left too long - no idea how they define 'quickly' though. Also it is HIGHLY contagious so the sooner she gets anti-b's the quicker that bit will pass.

Hope she's ok soon.

My DS had scarlet fever last summer whilst we were on holiday in Wales. He had a rash develop on the backs of his legs and groin area in the evening that I took to be a grass allergy rash and was bad tempered.
By the next morning the rash had spread all over his body, except his face. Was off his food and lethargic, and was sick once. I got an emergency appointment at the local GP near to the holiday home and he was seen at lunchtime.
Antibiotics worked a treat. He slept alot for 48 hrs and didnt eat much. But he soon felt perkier and the rash faded in a few days but you could still see it under the skin for a while.

can you call your OOH for advice on how quickly DC needs to be seen?

thanks everyone.
maxpower I've just come off the phone to them. They said it can wait until I see the GP in the morning (that's assuming I can get an appt!). They're normally pretty good though - if they don't have any appts you can get a telephone appt and if they feel the need they tell you to come in.

well doctor said it's not scarlet fever and thinks she had gastroenteritis (sp), which has flared up her (occasional mild) eczema Hmm.

I think it looks like eczema on her hands/wrists but the rash on her cheeks doesn't. Rash wasn't really visible when we were at the doctor but now we're back one of her cheeks has gone bright red again. Am now wondering whether it's slapped cheek, but 1) can that be itchy and 2) would it cause vomiting?

slap cheek yes to sick and itching.can also cause haedache and sleepyness(mine had it just before xmas)

she did have a nap the day she was vomiting but other than that she's not been sleepy, just ill! I don't know what to do now. Was going to keep her off school again tomorrow because she didn't eat much today but definitely loads loads better. If it's slapped cheek then she won't be contagious anymore bec rash has appeared but do I need to tell the school in case?

I really don't want to go back to the doctor tomorrow, he wasn't very nice & seemed quite uninterested
