Baby weighing scales

Can anyone recommend good scales for weighing my baby as it's a pain to get to our baby clinic and he hates taking his clothes off and always screams. Thought I could do it myself before a bath from time to time. He's 8 weeks.

I wouldn't try to weigh at home. Healthy babies should be weighed no more than once a month, less is fine for most.

Clinic scales are regularly checked/calibrated for accuracy - it is not just weighing the baby but knowing what the reading means IYKWIM. I would just pop to baby clinic once in a blue moon, but if you are seeing him grow out of clothes and is well, routine weighing isn't really needed.

I agree entirely. You'd be wasting your money. Medical quality scales cost hundreds of £££ and are regularly calibrated for acuracy. You'll be able to see for yourself if he's not growing by his clothes. Sometimes numbers aren't required and we Mothers can become too obsessed with them. Relax and watch him grow. Spend your well earned money on new clothes - no doubt he'll need a new set soon cos he's getting bigger :)

Ok thanks maybe I will. He's definitely healthy and growing out of his clothes, if I'm honest it's more so when people ask how much he weighs (MIL etc) I have something to say, and no-one thinks I'm being neglectful if I don't know. Of course I'd take him straight to the clinic if I had any concerns... might try the kitchen scales and see what they say Hmm

we used to stand on the scales without the baby and then stand on the scales with the baby and then the difference was the approx weight of the baby

mrssweetpotato · 10/01/2012 13:58

Good idea, Seona1973, although I think my bathroom scales only measure the nearest lb

Mother care and some other shops that sell car seats have scales. This is what you we did with ds2. Alternatively you can upgrade your bathroom scales to posh digital ones for under £10. Much easier than clinic...

mrssweetpotato · 12/01/2012 16:46

Yes I saw the ones in Mothercare. My scales are posh and digital Smile but maybe not posh enough as they still only measure to the nearest lb. As he seems to be growing fast maybe that will be accurate enough!

Which model are the Posh and digital set you have? :)

I bought a Digital set of Baby Scales from Inventum Shop for about £36
Cant complain at all - I prefer to weight in Grams for a more accurate reading.

Talk about growing fast! The scales really do put this into perspective!

I was thinking about buying a baby scale too as be good to know how baby growing so I just looked at what they use at baby clinics which are ones by a company called Marsden. I googled them and they also sell them online. Guessing they must be good if NHS use them although not supercheap Smile They also have a handheld version....
