Vomiting yellowy/green bile - what to do?

4 year old been vomiting all afternoon with temp. Vomit is now yellowy/green bile - can I carry on giving her sips of water or do I need to call NHS/OOH?

(she can't seem to even keep water down although did a wee about half an hour ago and still has tears)

thanks
(I have repeated myself a bit in a thread below but thought I'd put this in the subject heading as other thread gone quiet)

Water on a teaspoon for now. 5ml at a time 15-20 mins apart, once that is tolerated shorten the time span. Meanwhile call OOH/NHS Direct if worried.

I'd second persisting with the water v little and often. The fact she is weeing is a good sign.

water little and ofen. of course there is bile when the stomach is empty. sports drinks are also good, as are hydration sachets because they lose salt as well.
Hope it's over soo. and you all can get some sleep!

Poor little girl.

I cannot understand the reluctance to engage with the medical profession. Let someone have a look at her and confirm it is "just a virus". Even so, maybe they can give her some anti emetics and anti spasmodics (if it is really bad) to make her more comfortable.

Of course good home nursing is important but, especially with children, why not get them checked out if you are concerned? And if she keeps on vomiting and not holding water down, you will be in A&E at 2AM and in no good state to look after her tomorrow.

I would imagine they would be reluctant to give anti-emetics at this point.

I would say unless she starts appearing quite unresponsive and weak, stops weeing etc that there is nothing they will do at hospital that you can't do at home, where you will all be more comfortable.

thanks everyone. she's not at all unresponsive just miserable, tired and in pain before vomiting

How did you get on?

sitsyou · 08/01/2012 21:59

DH just got back half an hour ago from seeing OOH GP (spoke to them over the phone and they wanted to see her). She's now asleep next to me.

She has slight infection on tongue & throat (no ABs though), tested for urine infection but all clear, so thinks it's just viral. Said to carry on giving her calpol, water and try and get her to eat something Confused. She had one bite of digestive biscuit which I am waiting to come back up Sad.

He said it should pass within 24 hrs and if not, to take her back
