Hi, DD has a temp of 38.7 (now 38 after giving calpol) and has vomited about 3 times today. First vomit was her breakfast and she hasn't eaten anything since. She's had water but she can't keep it down. How do I prevent her becoming dehydrated? (she is asleep now)
thanks

how old is she? tiny sips of water off a spoon can help

or ice cubes/ice lollies to suck?

she's nearly 5. I've been giving her small sips of water and often but her vomit is now clear which I assume is the water she's had..

Ice lollies/cubes can help, as you take it in slower so it's less likely to come straight back up. You do absorb water from the stomach directly IIRC so even if it seems like its all come back up again, at least some of it will be getting into her.

If she's getting listless or unresponsive though, make sure and get advice from NHS - if it's very bad then it will have to be hospital and a drip.

ok thank you, will try her with an ice lolly when she wakes up and keep an eye on her

she's now vomiting yellowy/green bile. Do I need to call NHS direct or do I just make sure she has sips of water and hope she's better in the morning?
(she's just done a wee and she has tears when she cries)
