5 year old, verruca's and warts

My 5 year old got what I thought was a skin tag about a year ago, but soon realised it was a wart. Advice was to leave it, and that it would go by itself.
It didn't, he soon had 2 more, took him back to Dr's who gave us some liquid to put on them. Not long after, I found a verruca on his foot. Soon he had a wart by his mouth, and he now has about 8 warts on his hands, and 6-8 veruccas. We've had about 4 different treatments from the dr's which we apply daily.
He's now crying with pain from the massive verruca on his foot when he's walking, and cries with discomfort when we put a shoe on. I'm desperate for them to go now before any more grow, it feels like they won't ever! Any hints or tips to help get rid of them?

DS1 has a wart on his arm that's suddenly come up and I bought a contraption from boots today that freezes it. Really easy to use and said it should dry up and fall off in 10-12 days. I've used a similar thing before a couple of years ago on DS2's verruca (was a bad one on his big toe so rubbed against shoes) and it was the only thing that worked. You can apply etc. til the cows come home but it won't kill the root. HTH. Good luck, poor little guy.

Meant to say you can apply *bazuka etc. til the cows come home....

My son had them for years, initially told his own immune system will eventually clear them but I felt like a bad mother, as you do, so insisted the doctor freeze them, which he did now they're gone. Apparently freezing them accelerates the bodies own immune system which in turn fights off the virus.

My main worry is that they're just going to keep multiplying as they have been, today DH spotted another one growing on his face and the first one near his mouth just is getting bigger, he's not noticed yet but I don't want him too (hope that doesn't sound too vain!) and the pain is obviously an issue.

How do they freeze them? Will ask my GP, he has ASD and a lot of sensory issues so want to make sure he'll be ok with it.

Banana. It sounds crazy but it really works. I got the advice from a fellow mumsnetter on this thread and gave it a go and it was brilliant. Get an unripe banana, a greenish one just turning yellow. At night time, cut a small piece of the banana skin and put the fleshy side on the wart/verruca and secure it with a plaster. Repeat on all warts/verrucas. In the morning wash and pat dry and replace with a clean plaster to keep it clean. Repeat the banana thing every night for about 10 days and they should disappear. It really worked for DS. Sorry if I'm not explaining it very well but you can google it too - there was loads about it on the internet. HTH

Believe me or not gaffa tape works too but needs to stay on for about 10 days. It starves the wart of oxygen which it needs to survive. The banana skin will be having the same effect. As long as the air doesn't get to it it doesn't matter what you use. If you go down the gaffa tape method you can always put a normal flesh coloured plaster over the top so that it isn't so obvious. Only take it off for a bath and give a quick rub with an emery board at the same time. Good luck.

Apparently the banana skin has some enzymes or antibacterial properties that is commonly used to treat skin infections in ancient Chinese medicine

ds had huge verruca on foot that was affecting the way he walked - tried freezing and bazuka'ing it for months, didn't shift, his podiatrist suggested no action 'would clear by itself' but to kept it covered with zinc tape and soft, in end went to our homeopath before Christmas she 'prescribed' Thuja both remedies and a tincture to apply at night - all gone now - less than 3 weeks - I have no idea how it works or why but it does, I'd thoughly recommend it

Hello,
Just thought I'd update. Been keeping all warts/verucca's covered with gaffa tape covered with a normal plaster for a week now, I replace it morning and night (it needs changing, as it's on his heel it's losing it stick by then) and put some banana skin under the tape at night as well. In top of this, I'm using an emery board to give it a quick rub down after his bath at night, then applying salactol. The verrua's are turning black now and have become exposed (the smaller ones were white dots before, now they are opening up and come to the surface and are black) , the biggest one is still covered but has reduced in size and he is no longer crying when he walks.

I'm sure if I keep this up they will all die off, I will let you know!

I appreciate your an is now 11 and I’m hoping this is a long distant memory, my 8 year old has had warts on his hands for nearly 4 years and we’ve tried all sorts and are doing one last pharmacy method before we go for the banana duct tape you tried. Grateful to have found this little thread. Hope your boys is doing well and wart free.
