Urgent Four weeks old princess doing green pooh

Hi.
My 4 weeks old was on breasts reding until 1st of January. Then mum got breast infection with svere pain and now is on hospital. Since then she is on formula milk (SME). She did pooh three times since then, Twice tonight. Every time it was green. She takes milk every two hours, 2 once on average.
Please help me. Is it something to worry about. Should I change milk to cow & Gate. She discharges gas plenty of times as well.
Sleeps well. Only cries for milk or if nappy is wet. Otherwise if I take her into my lap, she becomes silent and looks ok.

Please answer why pooh is green. Should I go to gp straightway.

Thanks

A worrying dad

Very quick answer as typing on phone - ours are all teenagers now but I distinctly remember green poo phases when ours were little so am sure it's not anything too worrying but talk to GP in morning Smile

Green poo is pretty common for babies, it could be caused by her body getting used to a different kind of milk.

If she otherwise seems ok, and is feeding well, sleeping as well as a newborn can, producing lots of wet nappies (this means that she is getting enough to drink and is weeing a lot) and fairly contented, I'd not panic.

I hope your wife/partner is feeling better soon. Mumsnet is a great resource when you're on a steep learning curve with a new baby! Smile

According to NHS choices www.nhs.uk/Planners/birthtofive/Pages/Babypoo.aspx some formulas do lead to green poo (seems to be due to the iron content). If you are worried do you have a HV clinic you can visit, or can you ask at the hospital when you visit her mum? It sounds very stressful for you, I hope that your partner gets well really soon.

Thanks for quick replies. I was busy with elder one, she refused sleeping again at 0500. Yes I do change her nappies, say every four hour. Can't tell if full wet but I just think, may be its making her uncomfortable. Sleeps a lot. Takes feed like hungry baby but drops a lot from sides while feeding. Looks ok though. Central heating is on constant and I don't take her out but only to neighbours before going to hospital.
Will call go in morning.
Thanks all.

To see how wet a nappy is just hold a clean one and the dirty one in each hand. It will become obvious how Wet it is.
