I need one! My 17 month boy is covered in spots and scratching day and night. So tough. We're both so tired.
He had a fever of 40.5 just before Christmas then 4 days later I noticed the spots start. Day 1 we had a few, then day 3 loads. And day 4 was itchy itchy itchy. He woke very hour so itchy and angry and crying :(
We have antihistamine drops and a lotion. Not sure thy help a lot.
It's so hard not being able to help. And so hard being this tired.
Plus I just know that my other son (3.5) will be coming down with it in a week or two. :(

Oh this is a tough start to the year!

Oh its horrible I hated it when my son came down with it. I gave him lots of baths to help soothe it and rubbed lots of calomine (sp?) lotion on him. I also kept him topped up on calpol. Other than that all i could do was wait for it to go. At least they are getting it young and over and done with. That what my mum said anyway at the time i wasnt too sure x

My two got it within 24 hours of each other at 10m and 2.2 years. It was HELL. They caught it from me - I had shingles - so I was in pain too and also had a lorry load of guilt over it. They had it really badly - 500+ spots each and the baby's spots got infected, one burst in his ear, antibiotics for weeks etc etc. Two weeks of pure hell. And the baby was too young for Piriton.

Get some Poxclin. Expensive, but by jimminy it works. And calamine aqueous cream is better by far than calamine lotion.

And take heart , when it's over it's over and they really probably will never get it again Smile

My four yr old is just getting over it. Can I suggest E45 Itch Relief cream - he has barely scratched at all except for the ones in his hair. The spots haven't been a problem really but he had horrible stomach cramps, poor thing. Just waiting to see if DS3 comes down with it now.

Hope you LO is better soon.

LauraBk · 02/01/2012 20:35

Verityclinch - how did you know one burst in his ear? My little one has been crying a lot and touching one ear :(
Thanks all for your replies - alwaysbeopral - it's the hair ones that are getting baby the most. It's so awful watching him rub and scratch frantically. Do you think there is any hope our others won't get it?
Thanks jenni for your reply too - I hate it too. Really it is all just about waiting :(

Tonight I just hope he sleeps better, waking every hour and sleeping on the floor beside his cot doesn't agree with me :(

My dd1 2.5 started with a few spots yesterday and loads today. There are loads in the hairline too! Read on the net that bicarbonate of soda in the bath can help soothe them which seems to be helping a tad. I am hoping dd2 6 months will not get it but can't see that happening. How many days roughly do the spots take to stop appearing?

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 02/01/2012 21:07

Laurabk - My toddler seems to have dodged the bullet (although I think incubation can be up to 21 days, so I'm not counting my chicken spots yet) and my dad has never had it despite having and working with children all his adult life. That said, as bad as it is for the little ones, it's much worse getting it as an adult or teen so perhaps it's better if it's over and done with now.

AlwaysbeOpralFruitstome · 02/01/2012 21:10

Nevercan- I think it last between 3 and ten days (and then another week or so for the spots to heal once the've all crusted over). Ds' stopped appearing after 5 days.

Nevercan · 02/01/2012 22:02

Thanks alwaysbe. How long do they need to stay off nursery - a week do u think?

PiedWagtail · 02/01/2012 23:22

Piritone!!!! Makes such a difference. Plus pox-clin. God luck!

TeamSledward · 02/01/2012 23:26

Get a clean sock or popsock, put a large handful of porridge oats in it. Tie up the sock and hang off the bath taps. Run a nice warm bath and let your child wallow in the milky water. You can squeeze & gently dab the oat sock over the body too.

I think I have some pics of my DS's horrific C.Pox spots on my profile.

I tried the oats last night. I think it helped, least he didn't complain too much.
Today I think we have evidence he also has an ear infection so it's off to the doc at 1pm :( but since the puss came
Out of his ear he has been much happier and the antihistamine seems to help his itching loads!

I have tried benadryl for my dd1 2.5 as she isn't old enough to have purity but it does seem to be helping. I just feel so sorry for them when they want to sleep but can't as they are itching Sad

Nevercan · 04/01/2012 12:31

Sorry should say piriton
