9 week old baby with conjunctivitus & a cold - reassurance please

Just after a bit of reassurance really. My 9 week old DS has just got his first cold & now his right eye is all gooey & very watery.

I've cleaned away excess gunk with cotton wool & cooled boiled water, am aware this can be very contagious.

He's been feeding more than normal for the last day and he's pooing loads. My instints say this is all normal and just to feed and comfort him as much as he wants until he's better.

Is there anything i should or shouldnt be doing? I have baby calpol ready in the cupboard if i need it. He hasnt had his first jabs yet either (letter is apparently in the post but with christmas we havent received it yet).

Sounds like you're doing all the right things, try not to worry. It is horrible when babies get colds!

are you breastfeeding? if so, squirt some breastmilk into his eye - works wonders Grin seriously

BM is amazing - as is the mechanisms of breastfeeding to fight illness. As your baby feeds, your body reacts to his saliva and registers what kind of virus/bacteria he has with the cold, and then your boobs produce milk especially designed to fight that cold!! So feed, feed and feed some more Smile

Now I'm a bit more awake and not on my phone I can write properly. I had heard somewhere about breastmilk being good for helping icky eye's so I'm really pleased you guys mentioned it. I've managed to get a few drops in earlier and his eye is already looking better, plus a dose of baby calpol and the little man is finally getting some sleep. Thanks for your quick replies :)
