2 year old with fever earlier - now sweaty head and temp 35.7/35.9...?

my 2 year old has had a bad bout of croup which included high temp for thurs/fri/sat. Yesterday her temp came back to normal but today it was up again although not as high as it has been (today it was 38.5 max) - she has a nasty cough (no longer a croup cough just chesty, making her retch), and is snotty.
She had some calpol at 9pm.
Now I've taken her temp and it's only 35.7 in one ear, 35.9 in the other, her hair is wet and she feels a bit clammy.

Anyone know why this is and what it could mean? Am worried about how low it is.
thanks

A low temp is just as concerning as a high one so she needs to be treated the same, with paracetamol and ibuprofen. She needs to see the out of hours also. Give her plenty to drink in the mean time. Please do call NHS direct if you're worried, they are probably quicker to answer then mumsnet and are (generally) better trained. I hope she's on the mend quickly.

thanks peaceof I took it again and it was 36.1 and she's no longer clammy Hmm.
I will take her to out of hours in the morning I think because she has generally been better today and has had some food

That's almost normal, still a little cold though. The OOH should have a listen to her chest to make sure its clear.

i spoke to the hospital this morning who said to give her calpol for next 24 hours (i.e. til tomorrow am) & they said if she'd developed a chest infection (chest was clear christmas eve night) calpol/nfen wouldn't bring temp down, which it has...
either way will call them again in the morning

All kids have different baseline temps .

Â¥y kids both run quite high during the day, usually 37-37.4 but at night they both go down to around 36. I know this because they've both been ill endlessly for years weeks and weeks.

If dc is bright enough etc today I wouldn't be overly worried but do keep an eye out for signs of infection and get her seen if you are worried.

thanks. she's 37.4/5 today and seems a lot better so am going to leave it and see how she is tomorrow. She doesn't seem to be coughing as much either so I would be surprised if it's a chest infection. Think (hope) it's just her cold/sore tonsils

What happens with children with fevers is parents give calpol/ibuprofen which causes sweating and reduction in the temp. They also dress and cover them lightly. The temp reduces and the damp skin cools considerably (especially in the night tme) leaving the skin surface cooler than normal and causing a very mild and not dangerous hypothermia. Its harmless and happens all the time!

Was going to say that sneezecakesmum that's why it's given. BUT if your at all worried that something is wrong then do ring Nhs direct or your surgery. Go with your instincts as you know your child better than anyone.

Just watch her. I find with ds that a cough getting better isn't always a good thing but the fact her temperature is lower is a good thing.
