7 week old prescribed nebuliser - should I worry?

My DD is seven weeks and has a chest infection that is making it a little difficult to breathe, so the doctor prescribed a nebuliser.

MIL is a real worrier and said that was a sign 'they were worried' about DD. I see it rather as she's 7 weeks old and if they can help her to breathe while the infection is clearing, they will.

Should I worry more? DH is asmatic but not badly; so's his sister but more so.

Wondered if anyone else out there has experience of this - many thanks!

My ds had a nebuliser when he was a few months old due to croup and bronchialiltis. Several other babies I know had the same.

I think you're correct rather than your MIL and admire your calmness!

Is dd your first?

I wouldn't worry about it to much, it's not unusual for children to have one off episodes likes this.

Hope he feels better soon

Emma,

Breathing is obviously quite critical and 7 weeks is quite small! I would definitely want to keep quite a close eye on her breathing over the next few days, especially at night.

Bronchiolitis can be quite scary because small babies do not necessarily protest too much when they are in trouble with it. Was your DD premature and is she breast fed? The first is a risk factor and the second is protective. Has the doc told you what to keep an eye on with respect to breathing?

In your position, with a baby that young, whilst not wanting to overly worry, I would check on her breathing every few hours overnight. On the other hand, I would focus on the immediate rather than the long term and assume that, once over her infection, she will be fine.

Thanks all - DD not premature but not BF - quit at 5 weeks as it wasn't happening and was tough trying to juggle BF/EBF/top-up with toddler.

Will wake up during night to check though.
