Ds (4) has just been prescribed Amoxycillin for an ear infection.
He had his dose and gagged and spat it out.
Is there any way of giving it to him thats a bit nicer? Ive had the stuff myself in the past for a toothache and its disgusting.
Any help would be great!

Ds has to have clarithromycin due to allergies and it is the foulest stuff on earth.

We give him it on a spoon with ellas kitchen strawberry and apple puree on top - he's 5 (tomorrow!) But likes these and they are very strong tasting - is there anything similar your ds likes? Even honey? Nutella?

We get it down in strawberry milkshake.

Xmas Grin Ds has got better and better at avoiding antibiotics in his mouth every time he has them with ear ache. He started at 3 months, and has had roughly 10-20 a year. He's a pro at it. Xmas Wink

Basically now I hold him down and do it with a syringe. He discovers it in anything I've given, won't listen to bribery or discussions on why he has it.

I'm looking forward to see whether he takes it nicely at school the next time he has it. Usually they do apparently. I suspect I might be summons to do it when they see his reaction.

Have just tried with a yoghurt and failed miserably. He sussed! :(
He doesnt like honey, or nutella, and wont drink milk (any sort) at home. (But will at nursery Xmas Hmm .)

I did warn him about a hour ago that he was due some medicine and he was sick just at the thought. :(

I may try some puree tomorrow.

Why dont they make it nice for kids?

If it's really that bad is it worth asking the doctor if they can give an alternative? My DS was shocking when we tried to get amoxyxilin and clarythromicyn down him (and turned out to be allergic to both) but just had another one and was fairly OK about taking it. Sadly can't remember the name and have binned the bottle! It began with a C....

I second that Clarythromicyn is truely foul and to be avoided at all costs. It's gritty!

Ive decided that I'm going to phone the doctors tomorrow and see if they can give me a alternative. I really don't think he's going to take it. Disguised or not.

A friend has just told me that they have got alternatives but give you this one first because its cheaper ? Xmas Hmm
