Undigested food in vomit 12 hours after eating

My 14 month old DD has vomited two nights in a row now.

Night 1 she vomited three times: in the middle of the night after waking; just after her clothing change (grr); and then, copiously, after I tried to breastfeed her back to sleep. We kept her up for a while and gave her sips of water and then a short feed which she kept down. Was fine the following day except maybe a bit more tired than usual (took a longer nap) and didn't eat many solids. Breastfed a lot though!

Night 2 (last night) she vomited once, after I tried to feed her back to sleep at 6:30 am. This time I cleaned up and noticed there were two raisins and a mushroom in her sick, the mushroom was definitely from dinner, the raisins have been around and she probably picked them up and ate them at some point, dunno when. (She also had a bit of tofu with dinner but there was no sign of that.)

Do I need to worry about the solids not being digested? Is this just an intestinal virus? She had a normal poo yesterday so I'm not worried about a blockage. (Much.) She seems in high spirits today!

mushrooms come out the other end undigested in my kids so i wouldn't worry!

I think it's ok, mushrooms and raisins often go through my 14month old without being digested, I think they're a bit harder to digest especially if they don't chew them. Hope your DD feels better soon.

Ooooo thanks for the quick replies, just had an argument with DH about "why was I looking for reasons to take her to the doctor when I said earlier I wasn't worried". Hmm

She does seem otherwise fine and has kept down yogurt etc so I will chalk it up to the playgroup shared lunch. (ew) I have never seen mushrooms come out the other side, but she's not that keen on them. Unlike the raisins. :o

From personal experience (TMI) I think the digestion doesn't function properly in the hours immediately before vomitting with a tummy upset. Hence the ubiquitous diced carrots. Plus if you're taking medication- including the Pill, it can fail to be absorbed long after you think it should have been, and the tablets can even make a reappearance several hours later.

the gut goes into 'stasis' (slow moving) usually when it is infected with a gastro intestinal virus, hence food does not get digested. This is why fluid is so important and food much less so. When eating recommences its very light easily digested food that goes down best. Lots of bugs around the the moment!

Ugh. Definitely a virus cuz I've got it now! Sad

Sould have occurred after christmas, a good way to shift the xmas pounds...Xmas Grin

Sorry, D&V is horrible, you should be over the worse before christmas day, but dont invite guests to dinner as you may still have active viruses around and infect all your guests!
