Ds has a high temp for 3 days, hacking cough, have just taken him to GP out of hours who checked his chest which was clear but I'm just concerned as to why his hands and feet are cold? Out of hours didn't pick up on this and didn't even check his ears or throat?

I'd ring again if you are worried. they don't tend to mind with children and it will put your mind at rest. Hope he feels better soon. xx

Cold hands and feet are natural with a high temperature. Is his fever responding to medicine?

I would and do always ask them to check ears and throat (and if no other reason for a consistent high temp then urine too).

Hope he's better for xmas.

Don't want to scare you but cold hands and feet can be a symptom of a major systemic infection. The body routes blood away from the extremities to the infected organ/s that need it.

We found this out after 2 weeks of DS2 (20 months) having very high temp spikes which were put down to cold and teething by both us and our GP.

He was rushed to hospital with convulsions, blood tested, x-rayed for a chest infection and had a kidney ultrasound.

It turned out he had a major kidney infection and was in hospital for 6 nights.

I'd been trying to be the laid back non-PFB mum. If you have any doubt don't worry about bring silly - go straight to your GP or children's A and E

xx

My daughters both get cold hands and feet with a fever, but call your GP if you are worried.

ShowOfHands · 22/12/2011 09:16

Cold extremities are normal with a temp. However, he has a continuing mild fever and his ears and throat should be checked as a matter of routine.

Back to the doctor if you are worried. It may be nothing but can be a sign of more serious problems too. Ensure you tell them why you are worried and are happy with their answers. DD#3 had this before she landed up in intensive care with septicaemia.

OneHandWrapping · 22/12/2011 17:47

DD's hands and feet used to turn an alarming blue when she had a temperature as a toddler. GP seemed to think it was normal, and indeed it stopped happening as she grew older, and they just felt cold.

So it's not necessarily septicaemia or a kidney infection. As others have said, go to the GP if you are worried.

Yes - sorry didn't mean to be a scaremonger.

It might be something serious or it might not. But don't be fobbed off by your GP.

Thank you for your advice everyone. I was really worried but not long after posting this his hands warmed up and we both nodded off. I was exhausted after two nights awake with him on and off. He seems to be on the mend now. Thank you so much.xx

Hi guys, my little boy is 7.. he's been poorly since yesterday morning, looking really pale, he was sick slightly yesterday but nothing major, but is hot cold hot cold. He has got a cough and cold Very runny nose/blocked nose, and I've just checked his temp it's 38 degrees, I know that's classed as a fever, but he's saying he's freezing cold and putting blanket on him, I don't think it's out of hours job, I just need some advice really, he's had some calpol at 6 so would be due some around 10pm, but really unsure what to do, he's eaten a bit more today than yesterday but not a huge amount, he's normally a fab eater? He's been drinking bits of water but not loads as he just wants to rest bless him☹️! Any advice greatly received Thankyou.

I have the same happening presently with my little girl 26 months old. Hands and feet are ice cold. Fever, shivers running nose. Doctor on call said viral infection, She wakes from sleep in pain. Worried is not even cutting it.

Anant · 30/11/2019 20:05

My son is 30 months now and has his hands and feet cold however has 38.5 fever. GP is off being weekend. Can anyone suggest if I need to be worrying. @mum3gi, what’s your feedback please?

Lauren2954 · 30/11/2019 23:51

Did anybody get any advice about the cold feet? My son is currently not well and he’s feet are like blocks of ice x

Sorry guys just focused on keeping her comfortable, calpol and nurofen on rotation. Fever broke after 4 days and peaked again for a evening. She is back to normal now. I caught the big off her and lets say this dose was a dozy, headache behind eyes, fever, sea stomach, blocked ears, runny nose and eyes. Wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. @Anant just keep hydrated and painkillers on rotation. It will pass. But if you are concerned please see your doctor.
