She screamed immediately then stopped, had a gingerbread man and seemed to be OK - no sickness, drowsiness etc. Now (2 days later) she's saying her head is sore and she has a horrible soft-feeling big bump. Should I take her to doc?

Also, how do I get the sickening crunching sound of toddler skull hitting floor out of my mind???

Oomph. We've all been there! I am not surprised she has a sore head. Usually doctors tell you to worry if they vomit or have vision problems. I know that concussion makes you feel nauseous.

Take her to see the nurse if you're worried - you don't want to be worrying about it over the hols.

And don't beat yourself up over it - they all have kamakaze tendencies at that age.

Horrible when this happens, sounds similar to what my 2 yo did last week but he hit the table on the way down so ended up with whiplash too no doubt Hmm

He got a soft pee sized lump on his forehead and a black eye but no other problems.

She is unlikely to have late onset concussion, its most likely just the bruises maturing. If you really are worried take her to the doc for a check up. Don't ever worry that you are wasting their time when it concerns babies and toddlers.

Thank you both very much. I have not taken her and she seems fine. Bruise seems to be going down. I find noise of skull crunching in my head subsides a bit after a glass of wine.

Glad that you are both feeling better!

Flisspaps · 17/12/2011 09:54

It's usually when there's no bump that you need to worry, as the swelling is more likely to be internal and pressing on the skull/brain then.

The noise will go in time. You sound sensible and have kept a close eye on her, toddlers seem to have a tendency to find anything they can to climb on and then throw themselves off in the most dangerous ways possible Hmm As everyone says, if you do get concerned, take her to the nurse/doctor :)

This is why we have thick rugs on our kitchen floor! Every time my back was turner DS seemed to take a swan drive onto the tiles. I did threaten to but him a crash helmet!

Someone told me that if they don't cry at all when they have a bad accident thwn that's a bad sign. I have no idea if that's correct or not though.

My friends mum always had a supply of those large round toffees from Quality Street in the fridge for when there was an accident. It was only later that I realised it was really for the 'gob stopper' effect! Good excuse to buy a big tin though!

Please keep a very close eye on her for at least 48 hours. Delayed concussion is very common, and people generally underestimate the severity of a head injury.
