Hi I don't really know how to word this. My dd is 5 months and where he bum cheeks crack would meet and go into her back there is a hole (the skin doesn't meet at the crease and there seems a tiny deep hole)

Going to take her to the docs but any ideas?

yes a sacral dimple, my dd2 had this. She needed an ultrasound of her spine to make sure everything was closed (it was).

Take her to the GP.

Both my dc's have this, it is either just a dimple or it is a sign of spina bifida but a very mild form which I believe will show no other sympoms.

They picked it up at birth in my dd, but only when thsy did did I realise that ds's could have any significance.

It was never looked into in any more depth, the midwife and doctor told we what I have written above. Ds is 7 dd is 3 both are perfectly healthy.

Hopefully the gp will be able to reasure you.

Can you see the bottom of the dimple? My ds has one and as I understand it, if you can see the bottom of the dimple and there is skin covering it then it's fine - if not it has to be checked out.

Can't see the bottom of it, it looks White (sudocream).
She has been fine since birth- strong in her door bouncer etc. Will take her tomorrow Sad

My neice has mild spina bifida (she's 30 now), and wasn't diagnosed until she was 5 or 6....she had a deep dimple there, and it wasn't closed until she had surgery aged 6 to do so. It is far, far rarer these days than it was when she was born - far more likely in your dd's case to just be a deep dimple. You will need an ultrasound to find out, looking won't be enough if its deep - so don't panic!

Even in the very unlikely case that she did have mild SB, take heart - my lovely neice scuba dives, is doing her PhD, works, has had boyfriends, travelled, and generally lived a perfectly normal life to date. She has needed physio, and has some bladder issues - but she manages them beautifully and none of it interferes with her life.

Good luck tomorrow, hope you get reassured really fast.
