DS 21 months has my cold. Lots of coughing, temperature controlled with calpol and nurafen, really miserable, vomited 3 times yesterday. Not really eating: today has eaten small piece of crust of toast, one (!) pea and 2/4 of a ginger nut biscuit. None of this worries me, as he'll survive a few days like that. But I really cannot get him to drink much, and his nappies have been pretty dry. He has 2oz of milk tonight, and a few sips of water during today. I have offered him his favourite juice, smoothies and ribena (which is strictly taboo in my house, me being a dentist). And of course water. Not interested. He's currently sleeping (though a bit restless). Any ideas? When should I start getting worried?

my dd has been the same!I have been using the nurofen syringe to syringe fluid into her mouth throughout the day. She did perk up at teatime and drank half a cup of milk and has gone to bed early. Hth

What about ice lollies, ice pops, or homemade frozen lollies to suck on?

minceorotherwise · 11/12/2011 23:02

Ice lollies always do it for us, when all else fails

sprinkles77 · 12/12/2011 18:11

Thanks all. DS hated the lolly. He's not had one before. Anyway, panic over as he had 4 oz milk and has had about 5 oz water so far today, which is good for him. Still very little food but it's a start.

flat coke.

naughtymummy · 12/12/2011 18:15

How are you offering it to him ?If he has a sore throat suck cups.and.bottles hurt more. Try a straw or off a spoon ,it may be more comfortable for him

nannyn · 12/12/2011 18:38

Try a straw in 'your' drink, they love to feel like they're getting something that's not really for them. Another good one (recommended by a MNetter) cup in the bath and let them fill it from the tap. Hope he get's better soon, not drinking is such a worry.

Jelly is good too

sprinkles77 · 12/12/2011 20:39

He's had it from sippy cups and normal grown up glasses. He had a sip of smoothie with a straw so will try again with that. He's never had jelly so will give it a go. He has milk from a baby bottle but won't have water / juice from it.
