Vomiting bug for a week - DS 1 & 2 seem much better but still being sick

We all came down with a horrible sickness and diarrhoea bug last Monday and Tuesday. Both DS1 (2.5yrs) and DS2 (11 months) were quite poorly last week but over the last few days seem to have got much better. They're not quite back to their old selves, but are definitely on the mend and on the whole pretty lively.

BUT, they are both still occasionally being sick. It's down to once a day, and apart from today (DS2 was sick this afternoon) it's been at night, a few hours after they have gone to bed and, for DS2 at least, in their sleep.

I spoke to a GP on Saturday and he said as long as they're well hydrated and mostly keeping food down, don't worry.

Has anyone had any experience of this kind of thing? Is it normal for a bug like this to go on so long? Or is it that they might be over the bug and just still very sensitive? We've kept food really bland and simple, kept portions small whenever they've appeared hungry, given the last food of the day well before bedtime and no drinks too near bedtime. Is there anything else we could or should be doing?

thanks

Poor you and poor boys! Have you been avoiding dairy and eggs? I'd keep it out of their diet until they have had a couple of days free from vomiting.

Ds got a sickness bug 2 weeks ago. He still isn't quite right, he was still having diorrheoa (sp) last weekend, I think its just the type of bug. It also turned into a horrid cold and cough and ear infection and I've heard a lot of people saying that too.

Just back from tending to first event of the night...

3 weeks? Oh dear, that's a really long time. Haagendazs, I'm interested you say avoid eggs, as DH is adamant that bread, bananas and eggs are the only things that you should eat when you're in this state. I keep saying I'm not so sure about eggs. We're avoiding dairy. Pretty much avoiding anything that might be even a bit rich or difficult to digest, though to be honest it doesn't seem to matter much on some days what they have eaten - could just be very benign vegetable soup and some toast.

We've already had the horrid cold and cough, so here's hoping that doesn't come around again.

We going through this at the mo with our 18month old. Hesnot too bad in the day but at 11 o clock last night threw up everywhere and still got runny poos this morning. He was admittedon sat with dehydration as couldnt get any fluid down him and hadnt peed for 24 hrs. Discharged at 11.30 atnight. Hes quite fractious at times and not sleeping well. We all exhausted at the moment. He had the coughing bug first which lasted about 3 weeks so he wasnt sleeping through then either. Hope they all get better soon xx
