Medised

Just a quick question really, I used to be a nanny and when the children were ill at night and the mums needed a break we always used to give Medised in the same doses as Calpol for under-6's yet talking to a friend today she said that Medised is now only meant to be used in children over age 6 - Does anyone know why they have changed this? Is it the recipe? Was it always dangerous and they've only just realised? Confused

the age range was changed due to side effects such as sleep disturbances and hallucinations

Viagrafalls · 09/12/2011 21:43

But I thought that 'sleep disturbances' ie being 'sedated' was the whole big sell on Medised (in the 'olden' days) Grin
Thanks for answering seona

I thought you couldn't give it with calpol?

Newtothisstuff · 09/12/2011 21:48

I swear by medised... Wayyy better than calpol.. I had 2 bottles at one point.. One that said 1+ and the other said 6+They have the exact same things in them my doctor said its just precautionary ! I still give it my daughter !!

Seona1973 · 09/12/2011 21:50

she said she gave the same amount as the calpol dose not that it was given with calpol

Viagrafalls · 09/12/2011 21:55

Sorrry, loves I meant in the same doses as Clapol, not at the same time

It's the same stuff as Piriton though? Antihistamine used as a sedative.

Viagrafalls · 09/12/2011 21:57

Speaking of 'sleep disturbances' I must ahem, see to my 3 month old baby!
Thanks for clearing up my question Smile

I think it is the mix that is the problem i.e. mix of paracetamol and anti-histamine whereas piriton is just an anti-histamine and therefore ok from 1 year rather than 6 years

I have this cold/cough lurgy... again and I am just off to take some - works much better than night nurse etc! Yes I still give it to my children... gave it to DD from 5 months, as was from 3 months + at the time - everything still the same in it - GP said was changed as people were using it to sedate their children!

Elibean · 09/12/2011 23:29

I buy it for me, when I have a bad cold - less heavy than night nurse!

Duritzfan · 10/12/2011 00:48

So how much would you give a one year old ? DD has a horrible cold and Id like to give her something to help her sleep ..

Seona1973 · 10/12/2011 07:57

I wouldnt give it to a 1 year old tbh. Calpol/ibuprofen/karvol plug in/vapour rub, are all more suited to that age group.
