Nappies on prescription

/My daughter is 6, nearly seven and incontinent. We are under a consultant and seeing the local continence service, but have no real answers as to the reason yet (it's been going on for about 18 months ow) and so no idea of how long it may continue:(

We put her back into nappies because she was getting so many infection - at first we just bought pyjama pants from he local supermarket, but as she goes through about 4-6 a day, it has become horrendously expensive. I spend approx the same on her nappies as I do on electricity & gas each month!

So I asked about getting nappies through the NHS for her. My GP said hey can't prescribe them, but the continence service can. The continence nurse said that they will only prescribe them if there is a developmental problem, not for physical issues!!!

Does anyone know if that policy can be right? It sounds very wrong to me - it's like saying we will give you painkillers for MS but not for arthritis! I would appreciate some advice before I kick up a big fuss;)

Ask them to define 'physical issues'. Clearly your dd has a physical issue if the rest of her development is fine. Your paed should also be able to refer you to the continence service with a strongly worded letter.
