Baby tummy bug - to give dairy or not?

Hi there - any advice appreciated. DS (9mths) has had intermittent vomiting & diarrhoea for 5 days. Not too dehydrated as keeping down milk when I give him 2oz or less at a time. But has lost a lot of weight. All he is eating is baby rice with pear / apple, bit of yoghurt, and formula. Am conscious this is a lot of dairy. NHS Direct says dairy is not a problem and won't make his tummy more upset. However other mums iwth older children are telling me to steer clear of dairy till he's better. Apart from a bit of dry bread, can't think of anything else I can actually feed him if I don't give him the above ... he won't touch mash, or adult rice with chicken stock, or much else at all ... anyone got any suggestions? Thanks so much!

I try to stick to brat diet when dc are ill. (google for details)
It's banana, rice , cooked apple and toast. I think the idea it they help bind the poop and are easy to digest.
I also watered down formula - half usual puny of powder till the funny tummy eased up and gradually built back up.

HTH - d&v bugs are the worst!!!

starchy foods are good e.g. rice, pasta, potato, toast. It is still advised to give milk feeds as normal
