Eye ointment, is it usually this hard to get from the tube to the eye or am I just incompetent?

Honestly, surely it can't be that hard??

Had DD at A&E this morning with an injury to her eye, and I have to use chloramphenicol eye ointment 4 times a day for 7 days.

Tried the first lot at lunch time, after using all my strength to squeeze the tube a tiny spot finally emerged, then I couldn't get it from the tube to the eye...

Second dose just there thought perhaps there was something wrong with the nozzle as no matter how hard I was squeezing nothing was coming out, so sniped a bit off, still nothing, finally after flattening between palm and work top I got some out, but it is so sticky, have no idea how you ame meant to get it to detatch from tube to eye?

Any advice? Do I have a dodgy tube, is there a knack I am missing? Honmestly totally dreading doing the next lot.

DD is older so keeps perfectly still and is helpful and co-operative, but genuinely it is so hard!

PLease tell me the trick to this!!

The drops are definitely easier to administer!

When I had to use the ointment, every time I squeezed the tube, the damned stuff came out in an upward curl and completely missed my eye - so I squirted a blob onto the end of a cotton bud and smeared it into my eye with that.

Grr, yes had the upward curl too, it is evil stuff, although I am sure it is effective, if I could get it anywhere near the eye!

I think I will use your cotton bud tip, thanks!

Its fucking impossible! and I rarely swear online, so that shows how hard I found it. Much sympathy to you. I used to squeeze it out, then use a toothpick to uncurl the end, so it kind of stuck out in a little line, then try and plonk it into DD's lower eyelid. Invariably she then blinked it out Angry

Wash hands well, smear onto index finger length.slightly pull down lower lid and. Place finger against lower lid pulled down with open eye.blinking will then transfer ointment. Sorry if I've not explained clearly enough but that's how can do it. Ointment will be more moisturising after an eye injury. Hope dd is better soon.
