How do toddler viruses restrict your life

I have two worries. The first is that my toddler is more sick than most and therefore I am
Worried she has a weak immune system for some reason. She was only sick once inthe summer but since the clocks have gone forward she has been sick almost every week with runny noses low grade temperatures. Ear aches. Sore throats. This leads me secOnd question. Am I being overprotective. We have missed toddler groups and her settling in periods at preschool. I feel if she needs calpol for temp ir has streaming nose then we can't go to groups with other children!? Am I being overly anxious?

I'm not a doctor, but runny nose and snuffles for much of winter sounds normal - my son's nursery said if they didn't allow kids with colds in, they'd never have any children to look after!
Obviously if she has a high temp and is poorly and wanting to stay in bed then keep her home, but otherwise you'd probably be better off getting her exposed to all the local bugs and then after this winter hopefully it'll be a lot better - ds was bad when he started nursery for 6 months but then has hardly had much since (age 3)

Talk to the preschool and see what they say.

DD is 15 months and has just started nursery and is permanently ill - see my own thread! I am on the side of just carry on as normal unless DC a) has something properly bad/contagious like chicken pox or D and V or b) Isn't up to it. There are so many coughs/colds/sniffles going round that there is no point not going to groups or pre-school. Your DD does not have a weak immune system - it's normal for them to catch everything at this age - they have not encountered the bugs before and need to build up immunity. If you want to boost her immunity then lots of vit c and garlic are good. I am just starting DD on a multi vitamin (and me too!).

To add - my nursery are pretty sensible about illnesses - DC can in with coughs/colds/teething (even if loose nappies) and if they are on anti-biotics as long as no reaction. They cannot go in with D an V or if they are dependant on calpol to keep temp down unless temp is just due to teething. So it means my DD is probably exposed to more stuff then if she were at a nursery with a stricter policy but I prefer it this way. Nursery is actually a good distraction for her if she has a cold or teething.

How old is she ? The first winter after the natural immunity wears off (first 6 months-ish) is always the worst. Sniffles are a fact of life .
