DS has been unwell since the weekend and off school all week (apart from yesterday, he went in but came out at 3pm in tears)

he doesn't have a temperature, he hasn't lost his appetite, no swollen glands, no sickness but he feels sick all the time, a wee bit of a runny bottom, he's complaining of a headache quite often and a sore throat sometimes

He's just not himself at all. And nothing I'm doing seems to help him. He's getting calpol or nurofen regularly and plenty of fluids in the form of juice or smoothies. He's quite tearful - again, not like him at all.

I took him to the Dr who found nothing specific wrong.
I just don't know what to do for him. does anyone have any similar experience, and if so, what was wrong and how did you get them better? I'm feeling helpless.

time, sorry, that's all that will cure it, I think. Still an age when they get mystery viruses. DS (also 7) shunned both football & X-country running this week, time of year when they all get tired & run down, too.

DS2 who is a little younger at 5 had something sounding very similar pre half term. Spent best part of a week in bed un-enthused for the things he normally would jump out of bed for but still eating albeit a bit slowly. He was quite tearful but couldn't put his finger on why, did occasionally accuse his older brother of things like breathing too loud. I did the same paracetamol/ nurofen suspension and lots of TLC and he came out the other side, hopefully it will be the same sort of thing just over tiredness.

Its funny when they're tearing the house apart you'd love a couple of hours to sit down with a magazine (or mumsnet) but when they are quiet its so unsettling somehow you can't relax yourself.

Hi there, as a teacher and a parent have you asked if there is anything/anyone bothering dc at school?

foosty · 25/11/2011 07:36

thanks for your replies. he's no better today and has got a sore throat too...he's devastated because he'll miss his best friend's party this evening. poor wee man.

I've checked over and over with him that there's nothing bothering him at school...I'm totally sure there isn't. he's generally a happy kid but he's so floored by this. he wouldn't miss his usual activities for anything, really that's how I know he'a not faking it!

vague cold/flu symptoms together with stomach problems - could well be Swine Flu (My DS has just had similar)

crikey - I'll get him back to the doctor. He's marginally better today although is still complaining of a dicky tummy and sore throat.
