Where can I find an orofacial myologist? And has anybody used one for their DC?

I am in Edinburgh, but it seems that orofacial myologists are few and far between, so would be willing to travel.

DS1 is 6 years old and has multiple problems stemming from his tongue tie and high palate. We are looking into getting his tongue tie released and it has been recommended that we look for an orofacial myologist to help correct his swallow.

Can anybody tell me where to find one?

TIA Smile

I have no idea but, having googled, it appears to be similar to what DS1 & 2s orthodontist preaches. They talk about swallowing practise to ensure its done properly (something to do with the tip of the tongue being in the position you make a nuh sound with, teeth together, tongue wholly contained within the teeth.)

But we are in London, not Edinburgh. Which isn't much help, sorry!

It is help SoupDragon! If we had to go to London, we would go to London!! Or, they might know of somebody closer to us.

You could always PM me if you don't want to put their details up here

On DSs orthodontist's website, they have a list of practitioners and there is a dentist in Fife. What they do it correct crooked teeth, misaligned jaws and facial issues with removable braces and then try to teach proper tongue position and swallowing to held keep it all looking good. It may not be why you want but some aspects seem the same.

It's done wonders on DS1 particularly as he no longer has a receding lower jaw due to thumbsucking.

(Their website is utterly crap BTW - as I understand it it is being redesigned :o)

Just, just a little. You could always ask your dentists who he/she would recommend. Or ask a dental hospital for advice.

I thought GOSH had a whole department but could be wrong. Many of the consultants would do private work too
