Too healthy?

Can a baby be too healthy? My DD is nearly 2 and has never had so much as a temperature far less a cold or infection, no sickness or teething troubles either.

So many people have mentioned to me that she is going to really suffer when she starts school etc and is exposed to bugs that her immune system haven't dealt with before. She does go to mother and toddlers etc so is exposed to other children and I have a terrible cold just now, she just seems super healthy - no bad thing surely?

I think it's a good thing & shows she has a healthy immune system.

According to my mum I did catch chickenpox, mumps, etc but I didn't have a cold till I was 12 and rarely get them now.

I dont want to jinx anything but my boys are like this. Ds1 got tonsillitis when he was about 2.5 and that has been it so far. He has never had teething troubles.

Ds2 had a kidney infection when he was 8 weeks old due to kidney reflux but other than that he has never been sick.

Were so lucky with them. I thought de would catch a few things when he started school but he has been fine, even when half the class are out with illnesses that are going around.

They seem to have inherited dps immune system because i have a cold ever bloody week.

Sils kids get sick so often, its terrible. If they even get caught in the rain for a minute they will have chest infections.

i have 3 extremely healthy kids, cant remember the last time any of them were at GPs or prescribed antibiotics or had any time off school.

your friends are talking utter rubbish I think. some kids have better immune systems than others, as adults do too. I am rarely sick.

Some people just get genetically 'good' immune systems. DP and I are both fairly strong, ds too - can't say he's had nothing, but he's never been unwell for long. It is one of those things to be extra 'grateful' for I think, like a good eater or a good sleeper.

I htink as long as you're not keeping her in a sterilised bubble, only to let her out into the filthy wide world for the first time when she starts school, she'll probably be fine Grin

Ds1 (16) is like this. He has hardly ever been unwell. The only problem I've had is that when he had his only stomach bug aged 14 he thought he was dying and kept asking me to phonefor an ambulance. Fortunately it only lasted 24 hours

Mine are like this too- dd is 15 and has had antibiotics once- for an infected splinter in her foot- and ds is 10 and never has. Dd has been to the doctor 4 times- croup, a perforated ear drum, a fishbone stuck in her throat, and the aforementioned infected foot. Ds has been twice- both times for broken bones.

But I suspect that some of it is my attitude- if I know what's wrong them- a cold, chickenpox- whatever- I don't see the point in going to the doctor for her to agree with me!

I also think some families are more prone to different bugs.
We very very rarely get sickness bugs in our family. The whole school could be coming down with D&V and my dcs wouldn't get it, but more likely to get colds and flu.

I really can't remember when dd 14 had bbs and is very rarely ill, but did seem to have a cold for the first year of her life. I had a cold with a temperature when she was born and she caught it from me,

DS 16 is far more prone to illness. He seems more prone to flu viruses and gets sinus infections. He did have pneumonia when he was 13. He does have a GEFS+ which means he gets far more febrile convulsions and had his last one when he was 13 and I do think that temperatures to affect him worse than they may affect other children. The last time he was vomiting I actually thought he may have had Weils disease, because it is so rare for him to have a sickness bug.

I have the constitution of an ox but dd is always I'll. It's awful.
I think she takes from dh side as we are such a healthy bunch.
Count yourself lucky. My friends dd was like that and has started school
and is still never ever ill.
