Help needed - baby with dreadful cold

My 6mo ds is really suffering tonight with runny/blocked nose. I feel so helpless and can't get him to sleep lying down. I'm shattered after a run of bad nights and getting hardly any sleep last night with this - tonight is worse though.

Have tried steam, snot sucker thing, olbas in room. Don't know what else there is. Cot is propped up a bit. Wish I had a magic wand. Poor baby.

saline nasal spray?

TheCornishPickle · 17/11/2011 22:41

Yep, tried that. Hasn't really helped. He sneezed etc but same as with everything else he's back to square one in seconds. This is really stressful. Thanks though.

Not sure of the age recommendation but we used to put vicks on ds's pjs when he was a little older than that. Just on chest and top of back. Not on his actual skin though, just on the pjs. It seemed to work well.

Hope last night was a bit better. I am going through the same with 19 mo ds. We have had NO sleep and are really ratty and cranky.

A friend suggested karvol capsules which you squirt on their pyjamas so I'll try that tonight.

This is the not so fun part of parenthood!

Same here, but DD is only 7 weeks old. Was up all night with her last night. Saw GP today, prescribed her nasal drops and snufflebabe on a tissue in her clothes. Also said I could give her small dose of calpol as she was screaming in pain last night, then throwing up and had a slight temperature.

She is asleep now, and has been for past 5 hours which is fantastic. Ive got her proped up on a pillow so she isn't lying flat, also have her lying on her side to stop the build up of phlegm (sp?) in the back of her throat. I know older babies aren't as easy to position, but with my older DD's I used a rolled up towel or blanket to stop them from rolling back onto their backs - although they would just shuffle round when they got big enough.

Here's hopig the winter colds and snuffles are very fleeting! Our poor little babes Sad
