Hi. I had to pick my 9 year old up from school early this afternoon. They rang and said he was feeling poorly, looked awful and had a banging headache Got him safely home and he said he started to feel poorly during science. They are doing all about the blood, heart and lungs and he couldnt handle the visual elements at all. He has always been squeamish to a point but Im very concerned it is becoming a big issue. He said he felt hot and could hear ringing in his ears and felt like he was going to faint! He has been in tears this evening about the whole thing and I feel rubbish. Can anyone recommend any techniques I can try with him to help him through this. Many thanks

Oh I had this when I was his age! I fainted during science when I was 11...and often felt faint when there was discussion of blood etc....there's no need to worry....he will grow out of it. The best thing is to tell him that if he begins to feel ill, he must tell the teacher...I fainted backwards off a tall science lab stool and banged my head very hard.

Why is he in tears? He must be milking it a little bit.

I have to admit that I'm still like this. I was a child who fainted after another child had cut their head open. Blush

I can control to a certain extent now by focussing very hard on other things. I used to squeeze my eyes shut and recite times tables/poems/anything that took my mind off it.

I usually can manage to mop the children up before I start keeling over which is an improvement on how I was as a child. I do go into shock very easily, but knowing that gives me some control, so I know to go and sit down/talk to someone/move away when I start feeling bad, and usually it passes now.
