Possible Thyroglossal Cyst in DS, 12 yrs old..anyone with any experience?

DS has a lump in his neck, Doctor has referred for an ultrasound but fairly sure it is a thyroglossal cyst. it seems surgery is usually recommended due to tendency for infection

anyone with any experience of these cysts and the surgery?

it's not a cyst

the consultant is pretty sure it is simply an inflamed lymph node and for some reason , the lymph node is in an odd position, so it should disappear on it's own, he showed us the cyst on the ultrasound, echogenically (?) it appears to be a lymph node and also it doesn't move when DS swallows

so really relieved and thankful !

phew! will it just disappear or has it got to be monitored? Bet DS was pleased that he won`t be needing surgery then!

yes, totally relieved, it should disappear, and if it's not gone within the next couple of months then we can go back, but doc is confident it should just go.
