Does anyone know anything about low white blood cells?
I'm worried sick. DD whos 4 had a blood test today and her levels were 1.73? I'm not sure what there meant to be. Doctor said not to worry.

Has she been poorly lately?

About 4 weeks ago she had a high temp, infection somewhere (havent found the cause). 3 weeks ago she had high protein levels then 2 weeks ago she has high platelet levels, both of which are back to normal now. Has had stomach pains for 4 weeks now.

The white blood cell count can be lowered when your baody has been fighting an infection.

Has the doc suggested any further tests?

She's also had a water infectionlast week so suggested a water sample when she's finished her anti box and if her tummy still hurts next week to contact them them.
Thanks for giving me some peace of mind.

Tummy pains might be related to swollen glands from where she's been fighting the infection too. Sounds like she's been through the mill, poor little mite. I wish her better.

Almost certainly due to an infection - little ones often have low white blood cells with infections and lots of viruses can temporarily supress the bone marrow and make the white blood cells be low for a little while afterwards. When they looked at the film in the lab they would have done what is called a film where a haematologist (blood doctor) looks at the cells down a microscope - if it was anything worrying they would have seen it on the film. High platelets are also evidence of infection and the fact that they are coming back to normal is reassuring. If the high protein was in the urine when she was unwell and is now normal, that is pretty normal for any poorly child as having a high temperature can cause this.
She will need repeat bloods done in a few weeks to make sure the white cells are back to normal though.

Thank you so much, you don't know how much better you have made me feel. We'll sleep much better tonight. i'll ask the doctor about a re-test.
